Zane.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I would be spitting chips if that happened to me. I triple check my luggage and receipts before going anywhere.
rwwlee.. bargain with them!! say they put in the updated firmware and you buy it! I'm sure places like Fortress and Broadway would be kind enough to do it for a sale. That's why you pay a premium to go there.
actually most common places are not selling the x-drive, not easy to find.

Ed showed me a similar method but with lens cloth, a cut up credit card and no solution. It has been a good method so far but everytime I do it, I wish I have a better method...sorry Ed...it's just too scary sticking something onto your sensor
Well the idea of scraping something over your sensor isn't particularly confidence inspiring. I'd like a better method too, to be honest. A fluid that leaves no residue would be OK, I think. It's just that I've not used one yet

Where do you guys get your digital photos printed??
for 6x4's anywhere of those digital minilabs will do, I think. I do prefer the kodak machines, but I think the fuji ones are OK, too.

It's not as easy, Ed.
I've tried a few labs in the city, some of them still use optical rather than digital machines. I think the main diff is, digital machines scan films and print - with LCD to adjust exposure and all that. It also reads digital media and prints digital photos. Optical machines are the older machines that doesn't do digital prints. They probably tell you they do and do it with a $200 epson printer for you.
I take mine to my client's lab, it's a Kodak at Townhall station (opposite to Sanity CD shop and the waterfall) and they do excellent prints (except portraits with sometimes funny skin tone). They charge me 45c with no minimum number of prints because i am a regular (btw, haven't printed anything in 2005)
I have taken mine to an Agfa place - Fotolab on Pitt St, near Fletchers, they represent themselves as a pro lab with push - pull slide processing and all that and if you do >100 digital prints, they charge 33c/print, but at this price, they dont use AGFA paper but some no frills paper with a slightly irregular size - something like a 4" x 5.5" - which doesnt suit my tight composition
Fletchers (Fuji Frontier) and Teds (AGFA) on Pitt St have good machines too but provide no personal service. You don't know who did your prints and who put a yellow/green tone on your portrait...
I've never tried Digital City (the new one on George St basement) and Harvey Norman (MLC centre), but I know that they have Fuji Frontier too but I guess their service is like Fletchers
There's a place I go to all the time for slides - Vision Graphics - 88 Pitt St, Redfern, this is a pro lab which also has a minilab service. They do excellent digital prints - nice skin tone, but they used to be quite expensive $1/prt, recently they advertise 45c too, but I haven't tried it and I dont know whether there's a minimum number. They open from 8am to 7pm and on sundays too. VG also has a lab in St Leonards - check out their website
For large prints, larger than 8x12/10, you can try Photo King in Randwick. I haven't tried them myself, but I think most people (including respectful JAMES GREEN) are happy with them
I am thinking of getting a printer, but A4 printers are small, A3 are expensive. The Canon 9950 seems like a good buy for A3
I print at home with a Canon printer all sizes A4 and above. For 6x4s I have found it completely uneconomical to print on an inkjet printer. My 6x4s are done at North Rocks Kodak by some people who do a lot for me - so generally they get the colour I like.
You can still come as I believe it's going to be a full day event. Great chance for candid, portraits, parade... hope it's not going to be too contrasty that day
Thanks for all the info on photolabs. I have ~200 photos from my china trip to print, i think i might do a few test prints first and see how close are they to my intended colours etc. I'll probably go for somewhere cheap for these photos!
