Nice photos guys. I wonder whether the shot of some girls are guys or guys are girls!?!

Yeah, don't often come across ladies with big cameras. I tend to stop and have a look if i see one around too!

So that's why you made her wear the EOS 3...

Maybe the Mardi Gras affected me and I found you irresistable... but then again, you took a shot of me, too.

Very good work there. I see you got the shot of the girl with the cigarette smoke.

The Incredibles girl is very nice.. and the guy with the bottle in the back of the pants... probably the best 2 or so of the lot.

I think the worse thing I noticed was that because of the varying focal lengths that we have to use for people close up and far away made it hard to get everything so it made it hard to focus on their float itself rather than just the people. Was good evening overall. Now how do we get press passes? I don't want to be squashed!!!

Is that to do with your camera and not the lens?

Good work Smelly!

Zane, it was getting pretty dark, so could it have been shutter speed too slow rather than focus being off?

I noticed in my burst shots when the flash didn't keep up the results looked really soft - but in the same sequence the flash shots were sharp...

Nice photos Zane and smelly.

Smelly, some shots of the princess mary series were a bit soft at lower shutter speed. Was the IS on? or was it the lens?

IS was on mode 1. The same settings I used for the Mardi Gras. The strong shadows made things hard to get it right and the barricades they used as well as the lunge people with their tiny cameras meant I had no choice but to stick it out and push that barricade out a bit. On the last few shots on the gallery, I had no ladder, no sympathy from others and it was nothing but a shXtfight for both advanced amatuers and professionals videomen and photographers

For the morning arrival, the press got the worse position facing directly at the sun with Mary in the shadow. I don't think they got a good shot of it all even with fill in flash.

It depends on how much available light there is. If I'm using the flash for fill then I'll use Av. If the flash is the main light then I'll use manual mode.

I can't believe how many silly people use the camera phones to take photos. It's not like you can get any decent quality out of them. Maybe couldn't even work out who is who unless someone told you. My gf has a pic of Princess Mary about the same distance the above pic was to her. I could make it out that it was her but that was about it. Maybe I am a snob as well.

Yes, Ed's probably right about the slow shutter speed. I just did some sharpening to my pictures and reposted them on my pbase:

SHARPENED MARDI GRAS

I also use the same mode settings as Ed for flash...

Thanks Ed...yes I like back-lit subjects, that smoke adds to the atmosphere, I reckon.

I also find you irresistable Ed ...

... to photograph at the Mardi Gras

I feel cold all of a sudden by this sign of affection...

Just having a look at the SMH's web site and the photos of Mary... is it that good to have things cropped and in a weird proportion for the sake of fitting it in some page?

Going by that, I don't think I did too badly. This pic just made her look like a ghost.

And I must have been on TV though panned fairly quick from what they showed on the news.

Zane, those pics look a bit over sharpened though.... a bit of halo-ing starting to show up especially in the background. They look like that to me.
