Lucky you, Dr Richard. Why don't you 'hire' me to take those photos for you?
Friend of mine is an architect and he's been taking pic of his work with EOS 3, 10D, 20D, 16-35 2.8, 70-200 2.8IS, 24-70 2.8 and a macro something ...and get his tax deduction. I said: mate, you only need a P&S to shoot those buildings!!
You could take a few photos of your work place to proof you're using the camera for work related reasons! :P
In fact i don't think i'll bring a 70-200 to china because it's too much gear to carry around all day. So the longest i'll have is the 85mm. Was thinking about the 70-300DO instead of the 70-200, i know it's expensive and no where as good as the L, but i'll bring the DO around more often. The tradeoff between portability and quality, and of course no shots if i don't have the lens with me.

Hey Richard
The 70-200 has much better reputation than the 70-300 DO and if 70-200 is what you want you should get it and what you could do if you dont want to take it with you when traveling is to get something cheap and light, eg Sigma 70-300 APO for approx HK$1200. The APO has good name for its portability and image quality. It's a good range to have and has a 1:2 macro. A much better lens than the Canon's equiv. But careful the APO is the one with red ring (L?), there's a DL which is around HK$900... Or even just a Tamron or Sigma 18-125, 18-200 when you want to travel light. Something to think about...
The 70-300DO is a pretty good travel lens IMHO. It's fairly compact and the image quality, while not fantastic, isn't bad either. The only problem is that it's amazingly expensive for what you get.
