Think about this. If I do photography for business, I can claim the depreciation of the equipment as an expense. When those equipments are used for say 2 years, I can sell it at say 70% of the original price (especially good lenses). That equals to making a gain because you got your tax refund back already. Not to mention if you get those stuff from overseas. So, what are those people trying to do in selling a used 1DS for $8000!! hmm...just something to think about

Autumn leaves are the best! I want to get off the beaten track to get something.. I remember once driving the loop of Wiseman's Ferry to the F3 was a really nice horse ranch... lovely scenery... but also when you cross the ferry (from the south side to the north side) and you turn left onto a dirt track heading towards St Albans.... really nice scenery.

Would you guys bring your partnet along? I personally find gf/wife are not generally compatible with "photography". They could make good sujbects, but they get sick of you pointing your camera at them! :P They also complain about the money you spend on gear, i'm sure it's the same with you guys?

Be a man! Point out the shoes, perfume, clothes, handbag etc etc they spend.... I know I do!

I am very unmarried, much to the dismay of my parents. Then again, I get to spend my money on whatever I want.

The depreciation thing is correct, btw.

I am also very much unmarried, but have been attached for quite a while. I still must also understate the original value on occasion

HELP - with FLASH

Hey, friend of mine bought me a pair of flash units from HK. They are about AUD$15 each. It's called "Sensor Flash", made in China. Apparently it can be mounted on the camera's hotshoe (but wihtout TTL of couse and not even manual settings - got to move with your foot for the right exposure).

The great thing about this little flash is that you can mount it on tripod (tripod mount provided) and use it as a SLAVE unit (yes, it synchronises with other flashes - apparently any flash - so if someone fires a flash, it will also flash - like studio flash i think)

Question: does anyone know how to work out the GUIDE NUMBER for this flash:

the following data are provided:

ISO 100
1.2m *** 2m*** 2.5m *** 3.5m *** 5m
f11 ***** f8 ***f 5.6 **** f4 **** f2.8

thanks

I could legally claim my photographic related expenses as tax deductions, but will probably only do a 50% claim. If you buy you gear overseas, you'll even make a profit if you're lucky if you sell them here.

Taking photos of medical procedures... Can we "theoretically" work for someone and just claim it...

I take photos of x-rays and medical related things. So it's perfectly legitimate.

Thanks mate, that was just a quick unplanned available light shot next to the window. Followed closely by the famous you've had your photo, now go annoy someone else look on the next frame

I'm still coming to the Mardi Gras, and I think I might have a friend to join us if no one minds.

James

Lucky you, Dr Richard. Why don't you 'hire' me to take those photos for you?

Friend of mine is an architect and he's been taking pic of his work with EOS 3, 10D, 20D, 16-35 2.8, 70-200 2.8IS, 24-70 2.8 and a macro something ...and get his tax deduction. I said: mate, you only need a P&S to shoot those buildings!!
