I think IS makes a big difference when it comes to panning objects. Especially if you're working mainly at 1/60-1/120 range.

Thanks Chris.

I did have the money for the IS model, but I only use it for sport in brightly lit situations, and if there isn't enough light, I usually just use flash.

I just felt that spending (at the time almost $1000 more) was pointless for what I was using it for.
I love the lens though...

I also love the other extreme; 8mm fisheye!

Hmm thanks for the feedback, I get the feeling I'd be happy with either lense. The 1000 dollar difference makes a big arguement though. I'll have to see what the Minister for War and Finance says closer to the time. Meanwhile I'll have to be happy with my 75 - 300. I think I've found its' sweet spot.

Just been browsing ANZAC Day Photos from Australians on Flickr. It does bring home the fact that I am so far away. We all have to work here today but a Dawn ceremony and festivities are planned for tomorrow, which is the start of our weekend. I'll post some photos from the day as soon as I have them ready.

The Anzac Ceremony is an interesting mix here, not being held on the 25th but the closest weekend we can fit it into. Some drink all night before and then all day. Casual and Formal, it does not really seem to matter as long as you turn up to remember.

1.

Piper-at-dawn-2007

The day is spent remembering and raising money for Legacy. It is good to see the other Ex Pats joining us and we end up having British and Americans which does tend to lead to a who has the better armed forces arguments fueled by patriotic fever

2.

Flags-up-2007

We have no formal area or cenotaph for rememberance, but we, as most Anzacs did, make do.

3.

Pre-Dawn-Vigil-2007

Almost all of us here Brits included have a military background so the day, has a special meaning to all of us.

Do you guys know that G&V in the city is closing down? However their closing down sale is a bit of a joke - as I walk through the shop, I go "i understand why this shop is closing down..."

Have a nice weekend everyone!!

Who buys cameras in the city? unless you're desperate for the item, you'd consider other places first.

This was taken from the SW Pylon of the harbour bridge probably one of the most uniterrupted views of the city. Cost $9 and is open to 5pm each day the Opera house is just to the left and main arches of the bridge immediately behind you. There is also a museum in the Pylon with a video and static display on the construction of the bridge no extra charge
By completeing the walk across the bridge to the northern end you can walk under the north pylon to get images of the bridge, city and opera house

The circular Quay railway station and ferry terminal in the images from smelly can be seen cnetre left in my image
http://www.PhotoShare.co.nz/PhotoShareGallery1/100747/104946/Cityscenebwweb6137.jpg

You can also catch a water taxi from the area in the left of the photo go around under the bridge to Darling Harbour where some of the drop off points look back across the water to the city. The area in the foreground id the Rocks and you can look acroos to the Opera house at ground level
