Ed, where did you order yours from? i'm thinking of getting one too....
This store has a very good price.. http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=1374

What do you think?

Richard, I bought mine from Foto Riesel. Their price was around $1800.

With postage, qualitycamera.com.au looks like it'd be about the same.

Thanks for the info smelly!

Zane, very good photo. That's with the 70-300IS zoom right? Did the camera get the WB right or did u have to warm up the picture?

Oh that's good, would they give that price to anyone? or was it a special buddy price for you? how come you're still waiting for the lens.... did you send it to canon to have it fixed?

I think that Mick should give you that price.

I put my lens into canon to fix the flare problem. repair estimate was supposed to be a month, but Canon's repair service here is notoriously slow.

Remember the recall on the early batch of 24-105L?

I'm going down this weekend and probably every other night to get all perspectives of it but I think rwwlee has the best view with the heart on and the sunrise...

the 24-105L sounds tempting but I just can't justify it just yet...

Brendan, only suggestion might be try to shoot the night scene right after sunset for more ambient light. The pics, esp #2 and 3, have too much black area. have you tried to meter from the mid tone? so i guess it doesnt matter which monitor you are viewing your images from? Welcome, btw.

Thanks Zane! This was just after the 9PM fireworks though on NYE.

I wish I knew what metering from midtone was... and oh I don't use a CRT... I have a HP TFT at home which I use and I have a DV4225 Pavilion Notebook which I use to run Photoshop CS on as this notebook has 2.0GB of RAM std I need to learn more about the advanced features of this program though to get some real post shot work done on my photos.

Also, thanks to everyone else for the warm welcome! CHEERS!

Hey Welcome aboard Brendan

I've been a bit MIA recently; some great photos on these last few pages! Too many to mention. Great NYE work Welcome back Zane too.

This was my first (blury, noisy, out of focus) exposure of the year:

Thanks James, like your first exposure of 2006!!

Yeah, Richard, it's with the 70-300 IS and it's was auto WB, but I saturated the pic a bit

Brendan, try to meter from anywhere which is not too dark and not too bright, say, the ground or the buildings without the bright light...

why are you selling it? you're not happy with the gear?

I need a good lens... I don't have much of a budget... I want to spend less than 400 on either a wide-angle or maybe a macro lens... any ideas? Tokina? Sigma? Tamron?

The tokina 12-24 f4 has some pretty good reviews for a wide angle but is a bit over the amount that you are wanting to spend. I got mine for $780 new from here
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tokina-ATX124-12-24mm-Nikon-mount-12-24-mm-NEW-D70s-D50_W0QQitemZ7577187529QQcategoryZ30067QQssPageNameZWD4VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
$400 is not going to get you much in the way of a wide angle canons 10-22 is about $900-1100, their 17-40 f4 is also a good alround lens not as wide but is also in the same price range.

I've heard the Tokina is alright.. I don't like the distortion at 12mm. I personally can't handle it but I know a friend who's on this board unfrequently that likes it. I'm not too much of a wide angle person to really appreciate it that much.

Not quite as much distortion as your 8mm though

The distortion is just the nature of the wide angle lens IMO
I love it!!
I love vignetting too....hahha

btw, i was going to get a Peleng 8mm 3.5 fishy in HK, but the russian guy told me that this lens is no longer in production...
