I got the compact drive PDX7 from here there is a newer model taht is approx $115 dearer
rwwlee, the 5D I don't think will come cheap... probably the same price as a 1D2 and a bit. I'd give it a few months and see what problems arises before committing. Have a look at the 20D and their problems that cropped up since then.
Ed, you're loaded! 24-105L... you could start a store right now!
Thanks for the link Chris .That looks pretty good . I like the idea of the AA batteries instead of a internal ion .I already have a bunch of crap that runs on rechargeable double A s . A ready supply .
Any one want to see if they can guess what ridiculous price G & V will stick on the 5D ?
$US 4000 ....so... double it .... add gst minus a bit .... plus a bit more ... divide by the square root of 1 .

One of the main differences between the 2 models is the older one does not have a regulated power supply for the hard drive so when you use 4x 1.5v batteries the 6v can do damage to the hdd, the rechargables are 4x1.2= 4.8v
It is good to see them correct the problems of the first model, I only got this while I wait for the price of the epson P2000 to drop to a reasonable price. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/P-2000.shtml
They are about $800plus but GV most likely be about a grand
Tony C - Bathurst is pretty good for shooting - the main hassle is getting to the top of the Mountain from the bottom. They have a Bus service but the queue can be long & getting back down can take a while at the end of the day.
From the bottom of the track though there is still good access. The Paddock Pass is well worth it as it gets you on the inside of the track as well as behind the Pits. There is good shooting from the bottom of Conrod, the Chase, Finish Straight & Hell corner up to Mountain Straight......got some good pics just from here last year. Friday is the pic of days for me....no where near as crowded & they aren't as strict as where you can shoot from. Saturday is OK as well - Sunday - well, that is sitting at home watching it on TV with a big cold beer time for me
Will probably be doing the Friday / Saturday thing again this year myself....
Chris - the Epson P-2000 is awesome. Picked up mine a couple of weeks ago & that screen still blows me away - just a pity it can't zoom in on RAW files & it can't read the embedded JPGS in the RAWs either on my 10D Oh well - apart from that it is great....
Speaking of Portable HD's - the Epson is replacing my Phototainer which is about 18 months old - it is the 40 GB model & has the latest Firmware installed to read all current RAW files....I have been meaning to list it on B&S / eBay but haven't gotten around to it, but a local Sydney sale would be much easier Would have to be descibed as near new, original box & all accessories & a spare genuine batttery included - PM me if you are interested........if this is considered inappropriate for this forum / topic then I sincerely apologise & please let me know & I will edit this part out of the post.
Nice car shots! What length are you all using when at the track, 300mm+ ?
Couple of Fords there, but I 'spose we have to be an equal oppertunity thread...
I've been putting a couple of rolls through the old RB67 to test it and just get into the groove. Scans are coming in at 12,000px along the longest edge; that extra Gb of RAM was $ well spent

You can try trees, rivers, footpaths with foliage... that kind of stuff. You could also try an IR shot of traffic at night - I have no idea what that would turn out like, but you'd need a very long exposure.
ok I will try, but no hurry because I can keep the filter for as long as I want...

I'm thinking of getting a 2nd body as my main camera and use my 300D with the tele, maybe a 5D as the main with this new 24-105. The 24-105 with a FF body would be a perfect carry around lens for me. The only thing is its cost.. maybe i should just get a 20D and stick with the 16-35 for wide?
the 16-35 was never wide enough for my 20D, you may have to get a 10-22, so that means:
