I was there on the Sunday, the JPS ran then (it sounds bloody awesome) the porsche was still out of action, but it looked the goods. The F1 Ferrari was also there, it ran, but I think it was going eight tenths (it is a very valuable car).
It'll replace the 28-135 as a general purpose lens. f/4 at 105 is still a stop faster than the 28-135 @ 105. When I get the 24-105, I can finally dump my 28-135!!!
$4000 seems pretty good for FF. Specs look really good, apart from the 3fps, but I suppose I can live with that. Resolution should be amazing from this baby.
I don't think 3fps is a problem unless you are taking shots of cars on a track and even then, 3fps isn't that bad. I never had a problem with that... only buffer.... sometimes on the track, 9 is not enough and you could do with maybe 20 then... but with a kid running about you may want 1 out of the 8.3 you take in the second will turn out right.
i think 3 per/sec isn't that bad... who really want to shoot 8 shots in 1 sec of a car on the track ... great you'll have 8 of the same shot how exciting.... butthe 1DmrkIIN does sound nice i'm already saving....
I was more than happy with my effort at Oran Park. Having been to Eastern Creek last year on a overcast day I was a little disappointed with the results.
With a sunny day and the light coming from behind for most of the track plus the extra closness to the track the difference is like chalk and cheese. Still have not got that "shot" with the flames out the side. With only one 1gig card and shooting part of the day in raw I was pacing myself, this will not be a problem anymore as I have just brought a 40gig compact drive.
Also did not really get a chance to thank Micheal R for the use of his lens Thanks

You can try trees, rivers, footpaths with foliage... that kind of stuff. You could also try an IR shot of traffic at night - I have no idea what that would turn out like, but you'd need a very long exposure.
I'm thinking of getting a 2nd body as my main camera and use my 300D with the tele, maybe a 5D as the main with this new 24-105. The 24-105 with a FF body would be a perfect carry around lens for me. The only thing is its cost.. maybe i should just get a 20D and stick with the 16-35 for wide?
Been hang out on FM for a little while now - didn't realise there was such a large Sydney contingent over here ( yeah I know, I'm a little slow to catch on ) - so about time I introduce myself I suppose I'm Mike H. & I'm a Canon addict.
Can't believe there was so many FMers at Oran Park either !! I was surrounded & never new it - michael ralph, I'm sure I followed you around for a couple of hours admiring your 300 f4L I'll have to get around to posting some of my shots - its only been 2 weeks or so now...
Anyone making the trip to the Bathurst 1000 this year ?? Last year was my 1st photographing on the Mountain & I am keen to get back up there...
Anyway - just wanted to say G'Day & hope to catch up with some of you soon -
