p.1 #1 · Race to Alcatraz

Most times my images lack the seriousness of artful presentation, so I try to have a little fun when seeing something leaning toward the unusual. Here is one such photo taken during the Navy's Blue Angels show along the San Francisco waterfront.

Any and all captions are welcome.

Inclusion of the paddleboarder makes the shot special, imo. Very nice.

Escape to Alcatraz! The paddle boarder is headed towards the prison while the Blue Angel distracts the guards...
That is a very nice shot indeed.

Just a fantastic composition!!!! Timing can be everything!
I am not sure SF Bay is the ideal place to paddle board. Is the water not cold and have "great whites" patrolling the area?
Again a winner!!

Thanks for your comment.
A little context. The Blue Angels visit SF in early Oct when the weather is at its finest for the City. There is a lot of pre-show festivities including many watercraft of various types: Navy warships, restored boats of all types and personal watercraft; canoes, kayaks, tubes, and anything that floats, including this paddleboarder. I've included another picture showing a small portion of boats on the Bay during a low pass.

Yes, the temp of the water in the Bay is not ideal but tolerable this time of year. Sharks? Not really as they stay outside the Gate and generally patrol along Ocean Beach.

Thanks for the narrative "TM"! I visited Alcatraz just after the Native Americans occupied it until the government made them leave. 1970's.
Thanks again!

I love the juxtaposition of this shot. You have the Blue Angels signifying freedom and hope with the backdrop of Alcatraz, an "inescapable" island of incarceration. Great shot.

+1

Hi tech vs. low tech transportation for another form of juxtaposition.

The interesting thing (imo) about it is that to get ON the island, I think the paddle-boarder beats the pilot there.

Yes, turbulent times.
I remember the San Francisco Chronicle printed huge headlines in 1962 about the escape of the three prisoners in a raft. The thing on everyone's mind was "how" and "what if they made it to land". Alas, presumed drowned, but it was another tense time.

Humm. Your brain is far more complex than mine.
