A portrait I shot of Madison Rowley, 2 time World Beard and Mustache Championships overall winner. Shortly after this photo shoot he shaved the beard off, after growing it for six and a half years.
Shot using a mixture of natural and artificial light (window to camera left, constant ring light to camera right). Initially I was planning to use only window lighting, however the hair stylist brought a ring light with her and offered to let me use it. I decided to still use the window for the main light, and use the ring light with a gold filter to make the lighting a little more interesting.
Shot using the original Canon 5D with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens attached, set to f/3.2, 1/100th sec, ISO 640.
Well done Daniel! I'm impressed not only with your photographic skill, but also your ability to achieve quality with what many (including myself) consider antiquated gear
A very nice portrait, love the detail with the supposedly antiquated gear. The only thing I would add is that his face seems to have a slight greenish look compared to his hands on my monitor.

Peace,

Thank you. I have no idea how much longer this camera will work for, but until it stops I hope to use it a lot. I love the way the 5D renders a portrait.

Thank you. You're right, it does. The green tone is the result of my processing, although I imagine that the difference in color cast is because I didn't set the backdrop up close enough to the window, causing the light to be slightly stronger towards the bottom area of the frame. I did some minor burning and color adjustment, but it's a flaw that isn't too glaring to me. Next time I use a window for lighting I absolutely intend to take this into account and adjust accordingly though.

Got mine as well, super job, Daniel Scott. On my monitor I do not see any differential green tone,
FWIW. Beautiful picture of a unique subject.
Thank you so much. After Dave gave his critique I revisited the image in photoshop and used a couple of layer masks to match the color and light on the hands and face better. You're seeing the corrected version.

Since he has shaven it off -- you should reproduce this photo without the beard.
I've been considering reaching out to him to do another photo shoot. It would be our 5th photo shoot if we were to do another. I recently moved back to Portland, so it's possible now that we're living in the same city again.
