Kasper, GREAT series, thank you for setting these up!
What I note most is how different the 58mm lenses both render compared to the 50's. Yet at the same time, I find it equally remarkable how similar the two 58 lenses are to each other and how similar the two 50's are to each other across the entire image, except for the DoF difference. (The tell-tale for me is the teapot handle against the wall -- in both sets of images.)
I own the 50/1.8S, and now I want to own the 58 G too. I'd love to own the faster lenses too, but my bank is inadequate for one and my back is inadequate for either!

No prob! I'm going to do more with a larger subject too, probably tomorrow. If I had to pick one of the 4 to have my portrait taken with it would be the 58g hands down. It's a touch soft wide open so it hides my flaws, and the falloff is just fantastic. If you stop it down to like f2 it sharpens up yet still retains that nice dreamy look as well.

I feel that. Gave my brother my camera to have some photos taken of myself with the 58mm - I only liked the ones at 1.4, they were more flattering.
At F2 you could see some blemishes of my skin more visibly and I have by no means bad skin. If I am as a guy already am so conscious about that... guess how the average female feels about sharpness. 🤣

Can you think of a reason why the FOV changes between the lenses? The 1.8s seems like its closer to the subject.
I noticed that too, I was thinking the 1.2 seemed closer to the subject. You can tell by the light switch and pictures on the wall. I've noticed this on the 20mm 1.8G vs 20mm 1.8S as well, maybe the 50 1.8s is really like 49mm and the 1.2 is 51mm or something like that.

I was thinking that but the sensor plane isn't moving. Only thing I can think of is focus breathing in one of the lenses.
Both 50's have very minimal focus breathing. It does indeed seem to be a difference in actually focal length.
Just received my 50 f1.2 S but haven't had a chance to really use it. Will try and compare it against my 50 f1.8 S. All I can say for now is that it really is a beast of a lens with regards to size and weight. Because of this the f1.8 is staying in my kit for sure as a general use lens.

Lenses do diverge slightly from the stated focal lengths, due to the design not sample variation, I believe 49mm or 51mm would not be unusual. It’s odd that few reviews measure the actual FL.
Couple more comparison shots, no tripod this time, rough guess on composition, all base iso, wide open. 58 noct comp is only somewhat close in size, I had to step back a bit and compression is different so I didn't try too hard to match. Order of pics 0.95/1.2/1.8 close, 0.95/1.2/1.8 farther out.
With full respect to the big brothers, at the end, you get what you pay for, but what I'm learning here is, how good 50mm F1.8s really is.
Thanks for posting these images!
@Kasper6188 thanks for posting these examples man, it's cool to see how all of your 50's stack up.
I figured when I got the 50mm 1.2 I would get rid of the 50mm 1.8S but given how big the 50mm 1.2 is like someone else said I think I need to keep the 1.8 for portability.
In terms of the lens motor, I'm not saying it's loud I'm saying its definitely louder then some of the other Z mount lenses that I own. For example to 50mm 1.8S is near silent, the 50mm 1.2S is a little bit louder and then anything on the FTZ adapter would be even louder. If you manually move the focus back and forth on the 50mm 1.2 the focus motor is very audible to me but I realized not everyone is sensitive to this.
A big part of moving to Z line of cameras for me was the gorgeous video and great focus they offer using my existing lenses. What I found was the FTZ adapter makes a lot of noise that the mic's picks it up (onboard or external). Using Z lenses solved that issue for me, but again this is the loudest Z lens that I've encountered (as far as video is concerned). I'll try to upload a video later.

No prob! It certainly does hold it's own that's for sure.

No prob, glad you like the comparisons. I've noticed the 1.2 to be a lot louder than all of the other Z glass too, nothing compared to F mount glass on an ftz though. If you shoot video with the af speed transition slowed down, the lens is a lot quieter.
The 50 f1.2 S makes an audible focusing sound in a quiet room. The 50 1.8 S is almost inaudible in comparison. You’d expect that given the sheer amount of glass that needs shifting!

There's 2 focus motors in the 1.2 vs a single motor on 1.8...
