The crude translation says nothing about the R5 lockups.

This firmware change (Version 1.2.0) incorporates the following enhancements and fixes.
Drive mode: High-speed continuous shooting (when [High-speed display: No] is set) and low-speed continuous shooting are set to display blacked-out frames between frames.
[Auto] has been added to the menu [Viewfinder Brightness].
When the Speedlite EL-1 is attached and radio communication wireless shooting is performed, the rear curtain synchronized shooting is now possible.
When the Speedlite EL-1 is attached and manual flash is performed (except during high-speed sync and optical communication wireless), the flash rate can be set up to 1/8192 from the camera menu screen.
MIAF (Multi-Image Application Format) support has been achieved for HEIF images.
For some RF lenses and EF lenses, the phenomenon that AF and release could not be performed during zoom operation has been improved.

Canon USA has it on their site for R5.
Can you post the link? I am getting a page redirection error.. can't get to any Canon home pages except SHOP.
Odd, I can not get to it via Firefox, but got there via MS Edge... but the R5 support page I am on only shows the download for 1.1.1... they must be doing some mass updated.

I guess CanonRumors was a little off on the type of features that would be included in the 1.2.0 firmware release. Hopefully tho they fixed some remaining lockup issues for folks.

From the USA site, details.
Firmware Version 1.2.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:
1. When using high-speed or low-speed continuous shooting modes, in Drive Mode with [High Speed Display: OFF], the visibility of the subject within the frame has been improved when shooting moving objects.*
*During continuous shooting black frames will be inserted between frames in the viewfinder and live view. This will improve the visibility of moving subjects in live view and in the viewfinder.
2. Adds the [Auto] setting to the [Viewfinder brightness] menu that will brighten and dim based on ambient light conditions.
3. Enables 2nd curtain shooting sync during radio transmission wireless flash shooting when the Speedlite EL-1 flash is attached to the camera.
4. Enables manual flash output (excluding high-speed sync and optical transmission wireless flash shooting) to be selected and set up to 1/8192 from the camera menu screen when the Speedlite EL-1 flash is attached to the camera.
5. Improves compatibility of HEIF images recorded in the camera with MIAF (Multi-Image Application Format) standards.
6. Adds support for AF and release during zoom operations for some RF and EF lenses.

Waiting to hear from the Beta-testers
No kidding. Well, I can tell you that my RF 70-200 now rips the AF in low light much more confidently when previously focused to far distance, but I need to hit back fast to near MFD. No lockups in the 5 minutes I've used it so far

Hmm, I wonder if I encountered this with my EF 70-200 2.8 II. Some of the test shots that were particularly badly focused may have been while I was shooting and zooming out.

I updated via USB with the Canon Utility. But it seems they still have some issues to address - the interval timer not working when back button focus is set does not seem to be fixed.

This is fixed for me. Double check your interval setting vs exposure time required?
