So I just returned from my quick (over the weekend) trip to Death Valley National Park. I love the place, it has just so much to explore and shoot. This time I was exclusively after sand dunes. The weather/temp was great so I decided to hit the west part of the park and hike all over the remote area that (almost) no one goes to, and 4 x 4 is required to get to. The hike on dunes themselves was a bit brutal because walking on a soft sandy terrain isn't easy. But, I'm in a decent shape so I decided to go all the way to the end, where there are no more dunes, and hike back towards the parking area (round trip about 4.5 miles).
I've got awesome weather with nice clouds, but what's more important, I've got a bit of a rain there. The moisture caused dunes to develop those amazing shades and patters all over the sand, which normally is whitish. I spend several hours walking up and down the dunes, and shoot waves or close ups of patters exclusively with my new Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S lens.
After about a blue hour time I hiked back to my car.
Thanks for looking...

absolutely wonderful series
how did you break away to return to your car?
Scott
Good question Scott. I dropped the pin onto my map and tracked my hike. I use the free iPhone app called Pocket Earth for that. Late at night I just track myself back to the pin.
The app is great because I downloaded the entire United States for off line tracking etc. But the app allows you choose each state too, to save on memory. The whole USA is over 3.5GB so quite a bit. That’s why I’ve got my new iPhone 12 with 256GB
Gregg I always love viewing your images! Once again you have delivered an outstanding set. If I had to pick one, then #2 would be my favorite. Keep up the good work. UGMV👍🏻
Exquisite set Gregg. My favorites are the first three followed by the last three. I love the light in the first three and the textures in the last three. Death Valley is one of my favorite places, there is so much to explore there. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos.
