Ok, enough fun with Tina, let me do some "testing" too. I'll call this:
"Optical Experiment for the Advancement of Lens Understanding"
and I'll sign it "borat1"
What we have here are small SMD leds located at about 2.5m from the camera, ISO 100, f/2.8 and various degrees of defocusing. The leds are "specular" enough as to show edge diffraction effects along the mechanical aperture of the lens, so any other "defects" that rely on specular light sources to be put in evidence should show up too.

Very clean inner structure. (No aspherical element)
The edge is as clean as it can be too, I think. I've magnified the pic and exaggerated the contrast so we could have a glimpse at what is going on there:
It's consistent to the inexorable edge diffraction:

Thanks for the testing guys.
It looks like the Sigma at least holds its own with the CV, plus we get some extra features like AF. Enough comparisons for me too. I am very satisfied with the lens for my needs.

Great tests gentlemen Tim and vdo1 thank you. I'm done with testing too. In my opinion, the Lanthar APO has a slight advantage, but the Sigma is sealed, has AF and internal focusing. They are both fantastic.
Tina is really cute I love all animals and often prefer their company to people.

1bwana1,
I changed the settings to BBF, it's a bit better but not perfect. I think it's the body's fault. Thank you

Not too shabby...
"It gets a little bit better as you narrow the aperture, delivering the absolute best resolution we've seen from any lens with the a7R IV at f/5.6, at 5,380 lines, just a hair better than the Sony FE 135mm F1.8."

That lens was the first Sigma I ever owned. It seems that lens was the pivot point from what Sigma was, to what it wanted to be.

A superb lens for a great price. Sigma has been delivering amazing optics for a fair price since the release of their Sigma 35/1.4 Art.
