Glad you picked it up Robert. It's a great "little" camera. Very unassuming but checks all the boxes.

Fully articulating screen annoyed me so much on my previous X-T4, couldn’t get used to it from a photographer only perspective.

Haha! You're a bad influence

Well I 'converted' an a9 and an A7Riv into an A1 but still wanted something as companion/backup/environmental shots wearing a wide angle while the 200600 lives on the bigger body.

In that vane why not have a BIF go with it...problem was of course with a new camera rain/overcast AND I used the wife's E 70-350 (she and I'll be fighting over that lens).

And I'm reminded the A7C is like the a9, challenged for cropability....but that's fine; the A7C's role is different than the A1 but if pushed and shoved it can BIF, as proven by others at FM. I just wanted to see for myself.

I did play around with button programming and the 'Video' button is now Custom Register (you know what I mean) and set to 1/1600, F8, Cont.AF, Zone, auto-ISO, and so on). For the landscaping or Milky Way I go completely manual.
But here's a stab at a BIF

Today up here in the highlands we had a high of 58F and seriously bad rain...so played with the FE 20/1.8 inside for these last two

I guess it is a known issue/is being discussed at DPR.
I've got it too.
I hope Sony is quicker on this fix than the EVF blackout with the A1
But yes on my A7C the focus square is split in half and removed from the center
of the screen but appears in halves on each side....my crude diagram-

Focus square issues aside, the A7C even when this happens still maintains eye AF and nails it...super low light isn't an issue. Here's the grandson, EAF working fine even though the focus square is split-

ISO test.
The side of the lens I focused on was obviously away from the dominant light source in the room-the compurter monitor right behind it.

OK looks like I'm the only one posting pics...did I breach protocol?
Maybe there's an A7C image thread I didn't see?

Regardless I like macro too. Hard last couple of days=June 1st and our high was 48F here in the mountains....and it has rained constantly for 5 days....so finding the bugs not so easy with them hunker'd down.
When outside I've for the weight of the body+lens of course, the flash, and the big (but lightweight) homebrew light diffusor; so any plus for the A7C saving weight compared to even my gripped Fuji XT4 which I also love for macro.

Still fighting the wife for the E 70-350G.
Yep I know all the arguments of a crop sensor lens on a full frame camera
But the combo of this lens and the A7C fits in the dinkiest sling bag and is just
a wonderful walkabout kit for me.

I would say for small birds BIFs, I do miss the a9's no blackout EVF. When I was shooting swallows, it's just more difficult with EVFs flashing.

Really nice!

The A1 and the Tamron 70-300 f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (1282 g) is almost the same weight as the A7C/Sony 70-350 combo (1134 g)

I also have the Tamron 70-300 and have been happy with it so far in the limited shooting I've done with it. It also appears to be similar in length to the 70-350, so if you're looking for that form-factor & want to use the full-frame option at times you might want to check it out if you haven't already.

I know I sound like a broken record on this but it's surprising how much more than APS-C the 70-350 covers. And even at 350, where it's coverage is the most circumscribed, I find I am going to crop some on a FF anyway, especially with birds.

I've used the EOS 70-300 (short squat white red ring one) + MC11 on the A1 and it is fine.
I sold my Sony FE 70-300 when I got the tam 28-200, no regrets.
When I'm not in the mood for carrying the A1+200600/casual walkabout/plinking shots along the river I'm usually with the XT-30+Fuji 1.4TC+Fuji 70-300.
But now things have changed up a bit and I've got the e-mail back from State Farm that the A7C is now on the articles policy (I carry the Fuji kit listed above in case I fall and crack something).
The A7C has far more potential than the XT-30 in my opinion and size wise I can carry the A7C+E 70-350 in my smallest sling.

It's no A7Riv or A1 for pixel density but that's a trade for even better ISO performance than both.
I am looking forward to trying the 100400GM on the a7C. Currently my personal physician has been borrowing it/testing to see if he and his wife like. He messaged earlier and told me to order one for him.
All this 'long' lens talk for the A7C for me is just curiosity/fun. I think my A7C will be happiest with the likes of the 20/1.8, 24/2.8, 35/2.8 etc.

I'm liking the C more and more.
Did a 3.0 version firmware update on the Tamron 28-200. It and the Tamron 17-28 are my go to travel lenses along with the 200600.
I did a test shot this morning on a flower and had a 2mm backfocus
Looks like the FW update was the trick. Regardless sharp enough for me.

Dinked around the yard yesterday with the a7c+1.4TC+100400GM.

How does the grip compare to the a6600, A73, and A7R4?

I had an a6600 and have an A7RIII, and at first use, I thought the 7C grip was a mistake. I prefer the 6600 grip to the 7RIII, and thought they should have used it on the C as well... But, now that I've been using the C more and more, I think I prefer it to either of the other 2. It's different. The way my hand wraps around it leaves more knuckle room and I never get pinched with the 24-105 or Sigma 100-400 like I do sometimes with the 7RIII. Used it with the Sigma while my son was surfing, and I found it to be comfortable with maybe more stability. It might be the way I hold it, but the 7RIII puts more stress on my wrist somehow. Anyway, just my opinion.
Also, great shots medicineman

I needed pinky purchase so added a Smallrig cage (nope, I don't shoot any video).
It gives the pinky a place to land and some added protection.
