In translate-friendly browsers (I use Bing for general), use the right click menu: 'translate to English'. Here is the in-depth analysis (sarcasm) from the linked article:

'Sony has moved to break through the digital camera market, which has been sluggish due to the corona virus. The new mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera "α7C" announced on the 15th is equipped with a large image sensor and is tailored to the world's smallest and lightest body.

It has been 10 years since we entered the mirrorless market. Sony, a rookie in the camera industry, is now a mirrorless market leader. Is it possible to create a new market and regain camera demand by downsizing the specialty?'

I've generally found the Sony LCD's struggle in light where my Nikon's & Fuji's are still pretty visible. It's not the resolution as much as the brightness in bright light. More resolution would be nice too, but the daylight readability on the Sony's is inferior to similar cost bodies from other manufacturers in my experience.

I do agree on the portrait orientation articulation. It's one major reason why I prefer the X-T2 for landscape work over the A7II or D750 despite the higher IQ sensor in those bodies. I do a lot of low-angle portrait orientation shots.

Agreed.

The last Canon I used for tripod shooting was the 5d2 and its LCD was horrendous in the sun...especially since it had no swivel at all. Don't know about the latest cameras.

Yes, using the LCD with the sun behind you is a pain. Most of my landscapes are shot when the sun is not in the sky or there are clouds. I don't particularly like sunny days for landscapes. I have resorted to using the viewfinder when the LCD is not usable.

The most important part of the interview is Sony's view of the future. Sony is by far the leader in FF mirrorless now. Sony expects the DSLR market to shrink to the point that it is not a major component in the ICL camera industry. Sony intends to stay in first position in mirrorless during this transition period. At some point this will make Sony the number one camera company in the World.

Sony has a plan.

Shrink the DSLR market.
Stay #1 in Mirrorless.
As mirrorless dominates, Sony ends up a dominant #1 in the camera industry.

They are executing this plan very well currently. It will be fun to watch.....

The only unknown is how big will the camera market end up when the downward slide is over.

I would not give too much credit to any “plan” of Sony. Going by their NEX iterations, they just like to shoot arrows in the dark.
This is the first one with many more to come.

Yeah, it would be fun to watch. Buying anything is another matter.

Look at Sony's stock chart, and P&L statement. Now compare it to any other camera company. Don't judge Sony the way you do other camera companies. Sony is not shooting arrows in the dark. The are a financial, and industry powerhouse, that has taken a public stand on where they are headed in the camera, and imaging business. They must be taken seriously.

I'm in no rush to buy and I'll definitely see what the holiday prices will look like before pulling the trigger. Some of the compromises Sony made, don't make it an automatic buy-it-now. It definitely looks like they're leaving room for the A7IV and will probably drop this body in price once they announce the other camera.

Was looking at Brian Smith's review of the camera here:

https://briansmith.com/sony-a7c-camera-review-ultimate-compact-fullframe-camera-for-street-photography/

I know he is a Sony Artisan or whatever they call it, so this should probably be taken with a big grain of salt but under the header, "EVF is Shockingly Good for its Small Size," he writes, "Despite its small size, the EF is amazing – even for those who wear eyeglasses. It’s much better than the pop-up EVF in RX1R II."

Personally I am trying it out for myself before I take anyone's word for it, but this does give me at least a glimmer of hope that the EVF will be useable for my purposes.

Yep.

Long Sony, Short Nikon.

Would have been very profitable position over the last couple of years. All your photographic equipment for you whole life would have been paid for....

You could have done worse with your money....

I think this camera is awesome in so many ways.

The only thing that's holding me back is that I've always wanted an RX1RII, for the lens and sensor. If this was 42MP, I'd probably jump.

I am calling BS on this--not you Steve, but I am highly suspicious of Brian Smith here.

I've noticed a trend with Sony ambassadors. It's almost as if they are doing exactly what Sony is targeting...you know, specifically mentioning the RX1 being surpassed/outdate/no longer needed.

Chad Wadsworth was saying the FE 35 1.8 was an RX1 killer. Nice try lol, not even close.

Ray Larose, privy to an ZX1, specifically went out of his way to mention how the lens was smoother bokeh than the RX1 Sonnar. Perhaps, but extremely doubtful, and no samples posted.

Brian Smith, another Sony guy, goes out of his way to mention the EVF is better than the RX1r2 despite the specs say otherwise. We'll see, highly doubtful.

I think it's apparent that Sony hasn't been able to replicate the RX1 line, and they'd like to buy enough credibility though ambassadors' press to kill it. Sony can't quite get that stubborn unique little camera off shooters minds despite their many new products.

It's a passing desultory bit of fun watching them boost that which can be disproven even at the shop counter. The DPR guy got it over and done with early in his video, but he couldn't keep the pained look off his face. Some peoples honesty can't be denied.

He even posted a look through the EVF, what he referred to as a 'tight tunnel' that clearly needed a concentrated effort just to get a view - it looked horrible. Then he talked up 'tracking', which seemed to be big for his chat.

The 'artisans' knocked off work early and did their reputations no good. Sales professionals know how to handle this kind of dilemma. It's an LCD device with an afterthought EVF, a serious miscalculation by Sony. I suspect they know it and Mr Smith tried what's known as an 'in before'. Another pre-release one was the 'good looking' meme, a naked attempt to interest M users.

Maybe their design team wanted early APS-C users to feel right at home. They will. The 'Phoblographer' is pumping it as a Leica M replacement, and suggests using zone focusing, mentions 'EVF' just once in passing. Strange days.

I've seen others say the same. I don't know the explanation, or know if it happens with all firmware/body/flash combinations.

We always use EFCS and never had an issue with Godox OCF or the Ad400. Godox isn't as reliable as Profoto and sometimes the flash is not firing correctly, but this isn't often happening and is the same with EFCS off.
I never had issues with weird bokeh either, although that can happen at very high SS. If that really is a concern use an ND.

It won’t be as bad since max shutter is 1/4000 anyhow. Get a stronger ND filter. 1/4000 is annoying as is. , even 1/8000 runs into scenarios where it won’t work.

The effect is progressively less each stop and nearly nonexistent at 1/1000. On top of that mounting 1.4 lenses on this camera is less common, it’s a small camera meant to pair with small lenses. Think of it as Sony’s way of forcing a guideline to keep your setup small.

I'm more concerned about cut-off bokeh balls when shooting with large-aperture lenses at high shutter speeds.

Brian Smith promoting the use of ZM 18mm as a wide angle for the A7R showed how credible he could be.

Interesting re EFCS and Godox. There are certainly recommendations to turn it off eg https://theoverratedphotographer.com/2019/02/14/using-godox-with-the-sony-a7iii-a7riii/

but I haven’t done controlled tests.

I have however done controlled tests with bokeh circles, and it’s often visible above 1/2k second.

The PEN F EVF is listed at 0.62x on this website https://www.neocamera.com/article/evf_sizes?sort=magnification so I think you mean that the Sony A7C at 0.59x is a tad smaller.

Only camera Sony could produce right now that I would be remotely interested in is an A7c"r". At least 42mp, Better EVF, minimum 1/8000 shutter, Better LCD etc... Or maybe that curved sensor Rx1riii I'd been dreaming about

Edit: Well that was weird. Was not even on this thread. Was reading the new Emount body's thread. Posted quick reply and I ended up here. Sorry. Never had that happen before
