So what is the "new concept" ? Smallest FF camera with a built in EVF?

I think the biggest concept with this camera is its size and ability to take different lenses. Ideal travel camera with a couple tiny lenses.

B&H describes the A7c:

"Compact and capable, the black Sony Alpha a7C mixes the quality and advantages of a full-frame sensor with an especially portable and sleek body design. Featuring a 24.2MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, the a7C offers hybrid abilities to suit both photo and video recording needs along with a form factor for everyday, all-day carry."

"Compared to other a7-series camera bodies, the a7C has a distinctly sleeker profile that mimics the styling of a rangefinder, with an offset viewfinder and a streamlined top plate"

My interest is piqued to a degree.

A7RIII does over 95% of my stuff as a hobbyist (still deciding if I 'need' RIV) - my backup 6500 and RXIRII rarely get out, much as I love the output of the latter. This little camera might possibly replace the 2 backups and get out more.

I think the price is toppy at the moment - but I will watch real world reviews and thoughts of users here with interest.

Tony sure let the horses out of the barn when he recommended the Canon EOS R, regardless what he said following. But if this review is within reason, it seems a good used A7R iii would be a far better purchase since the size isn't much different, although there's a finger space difference worth noting.

Also, if IBIS of the A7C shouldn't be relied upon in low light, what lenses with image stabilization are available for a budget priced body that will maintain comfortable finger room?

Will those of you FF Sony photographers that typically take along a Sony APSC as your back up camera, now consider to replace the APSC with the FF A7c?

Not sure there are any superior SKUs at the size needed for this kind of camera design. I use the 6400 and 6500 and don't have any complaints about the viewfinder, although my A7R4 is nicer.

Agreed...the EVF on the a6400 is fine. Which is why I'm baffled they didn't use it for this camera. This is a massive downgrade in size compared to the a6400.

It does look like they sacrificed it to save about 2mm of height, but honestly, I'd rather they slightly reduce the rear screen size by 2mm and put in the better EVF.

it is founded, not that they couldn't port the same style, but the SIII menus are much more independent to the camera operation, now you can fully access when buffering, so there's a fundamental change they made in how they wire things, it's not all software

appreciate the surprise of the Siii, have one on order. the idea of this A7c as a secondary camera is DOA as far as I'm concerned. You can still redo the menus to look the same as the Siii but not have the quick and smooth reaction. It just goes to show that Sony has been using trash processors for the longest time.... and still using it in 2020.......

Sony got one thing right with the A7c..... the size, not a fan of how heavy these cameras are. Assuming the A7iv is any good, I'll simply wait till the A7c mark ii comes out. I'm ready to sacrifice some features, but I have my limits.

I dont think that's an ibis problem.... it might be shutter shake or subject movement....... 1/50 for people shots? Tony N is an amateur.

This is an amateur camera, so I think Tony made a good point no matter how we look at it then. I gather Tony is good enough to exceed your criticism. But if he's not, there will be typical amateurs using it. Plus, the other aspect of the AF demonstrated, sort of implies what he said about IBIS can be believable.

Totally agree with you. I never rely on IS for shooting people. Always increase ISO so you get a decent shutter speed. I find IS to be of little use when I travel as most of my subjects are people and guess what...people move.

And what makes a pro camera? One of the best wedding photographer in my area shoots with a rebel camera...yet she delivers amazing photos and is booked full time.

Same sensor and processor as the A7III.

So... does that mean that the A7III could get a firmware update to include real time tracking, but Sony just won't do it?

And that's definitely something Northrup didn't really cover.

Assuming the ISO was at least okay, wouldn't a used A7R iii for $1500 to $1800 be a better investment?

Seeing you circumvented the amateur thing, let's drag the comment back to that part first. Amateurs will be shooting with the A7C if they buy one. What's a pro camera doesn't answer your previous interjection. But there are plenty of pros with unsteady hands. So what's noted about the IBIS is worth considering. Shaky hands won't define whether Tony is an amateur. But IBIS is paid for to compensate for exactly what they were trying to do.

Depends on how much value one puts onto size and weight. For me, a backup or second camera needs to be small and light. I can trade off certain features for a compact size.

Again, it depends on what one is shooting. Shooting events typically IS does nothing for you. Shooting still subjects like landscapes or architecture, I'd use a tripod over any IS to get better results.

It's not just sensor...but also the processors inside the camera. I have no idea if the processors are the same.

would you use people as subjects for an IBIS test? it's absolutely absurd.

Tony is an expert youtuber, there's no doubt about that. He's shown time and time again, that he's not a very experienced photographer.

Well I was going to order it. Then I wasn't. I just pre ordered one. lol. Yes the EVH is not what I was hoping for but when I sold my A6600 it wasn't just because the viewfinder bothered me. It wasn't a FF camera and didn't have the benefits of using a FF camera. I have been wanting a compact FF camera as a smaller companion or alternative to my R4 and A9. Decided that I can live with the inferior EVF of the A7C or at least try to. Decided to get the silver top model. The lens? I just do not see much need in it. I have enough FF glass for now.
