A new line of small lenses !!!
I love that.
Start with a 35/1.4 😎
Personally i think these lenses may have been inspired by Samyang. The size of those 18/45/35/75 lenses begs for a new small body.
These small lenses, also if they are high quality, will wreck havoc on FM member’s carefully made kits over the years, including mine

I think the higher price is a very good sign--it means this is not a low end camera, but the first camera in a new compact line. Same thing with having its own lenses.

Absolutely agree
Small size and miniaturisation can be a value for which a premium can be charged. It doesn’t have to be a cheap camera.
But then what happens to Sony’s volume camera? I suppose it will never come. I kind of think that today a volume pusher Rebelesque FF body is not needed, because a Rebel shooter of the yore is too happy with his iPhone 11. I would think that Sony will do right to go premium route while still making it within reach.

It sounds to me as though this new offering could potentially represent an interchangeable lens version of the RX1R line using a body configuration similar to the APS-C line (or perhaps even smaller, like the RX1 itself). If this is the case, it could explain why Sony never came out with the RX1Riii.
I, too, am excited about the mention of a new line of compact FF lenses. Seems as though this could potentially represent a new line of high quality f2-2.8 lenses that, I believe, would be very appealing to many current owners of the A7 and A9 lines.

I would like an a6600 viewfinder also. The pop up might be a mistake by Sony, or let's hope a misreport. I don't know why the pop-up would take any less internal space than the a6600 viewfinder.
But I do find myself using the rear lcd to focus more and more, especially with tracking AF. It seems to help me to see the image and with adjustments to composition.
Also, I think phone cameras have made using the lcd screen more and more of a default mode for many people.
Personally I won't buy a camera without a viewfinder. The main reason I don't own a Sigma FP.

Would that be great, or what!!!
I wonder if the different body size and new VX designation for the lenses means the possibility of a new mount?
Could this be the first building block in an eventual replacement or stagnating of the APS-C line?

Panasonic GX7 (m43) had a tiltable viewfinder, and it could be tilted up to 90 degrees. Could that be it rather than a pop-up finder. I would hope so, if Sony departs from the regular A6x00 style finder. Would a tiltable finder make any sense for vloggers, asked as a non-vlogger myself?

@fred miranda i agree but the generation brought up on mobile phones is “actually” comfortable with just the LCD, like fish in water. They do not use the VF. The other thing they love is using 2:3 vs 3:2, the vertical screen watchers. Can’t get it. They won’t change the orientation of a video ! See Julia Trotti’s youtube channel and see how these kids use DSLRs without ever looking through VF. Escapes me.

I feel really excited about this!
Yes, definitely will replace my A6000 as my backup travel camera.

Pop-up EVF is ok but not ideal.
I also definitely wish for the viewfinder, and I have never bought a camera without one. But I am also beginning to wonder why, and what it is that the EVF brings. LCD screens have gotten a lot better. What do you think one gets from the viewfinder vs the LCD other than issues of bright light sometimes making it hard to see the LCD screen? Is it better to see the image through one eye for some reason? Is the EVF better for manual focusing?

Three main advantages of the EVF for me:
1. Much better when shooting in the sun.
2. Easier to be stable using the viewfinder. To use the LCD, you have to hold the camera away from your body, thus making it less stable.
3. More focussed when looking through a viewfinder than the rear LCD. Too many distractions within eye sight using the LCD.

For me viewfinders provides a better shooting experience. It removes all distractions from the surroundings and allows me concentrate on focus and composition. In practical terms, it provides more stabilization and the ability to block strong lighting allowing me to better compose my images.

I hope it's not a new mount. Would love to use those compact lenses on my other cameras. What would a new mount bring to the table?
I'm really just speculating here, based on two things: to make the body significantly smaller but maintain IBIS with a full frame sensor would be quite an engineering and design challenge--so I wonder if a new mount would help them out in some way that would be worth doing. And then the new VX designation makes me think it is important to have these new lenses labeled differently from FE lenses. I don't think the new new VX name would be exclusively for marketing purposes. But I obviously don't really know a thing about this. Just speculating.
One other thing. Most major camera lines have two incompatible lens line, sometimes three. If the A7C exists, is there still a good argument for APS-C? There may well be, but it is also possible that the C line with VX lenses would eventually replace the APS-C line. Maybe that is why "C" shows up in both names.
Anyway, I am just talking here. Lots of interesting ways Sony could take this.
If the camera and sensor are really good, this is a major development and a major engineering feat. Bu they gotta bring the lenses.
