Wow this is surprising to just how much smaller and lighter it is compared to the older dslr version. Amazing! Dustin abbot review was awesome to watch. Really nice landscape performance actually. Great colors, sharpness. Aside from the distortion which they had to choose to not correct to get this size. CA is also very well controlled. Very nice bokeh as well and high contrast. Good job Sigma!

It says Sony Zeiss or G Series lenses. So I guess not specifically GMs, but the language suggests they have to be branded a certain way. Meaning the 85/1.8 would not count, but the 55/1.8 ZA would. Unless you know that not to be the case? I was just interpreting what’s written there, but admittedly have no experience with it.
That's so strange. When I look at the Pro Support FAQ, it shows this...

If you are a pro photographer in the era of Covid...you are in a world of hurt. Sony needs to recognize this & open up its pro support to different tiers. Make it like an insurance program with different costs for levels of coverage.

Dustin Abbott review also out now.
Looks great! A very nice release by Sigma. I've watched three or four reviews now and I think, apart from the size/weight, the most impressive aspect is the almost total control over all forms of chromatic aberration. Bokeh fringing is usually the one that bothers me the most (I'm looking at you, 55/1.8) and man, the Sigma looks good there. It's a Sigma Art so I knew it was going to be sharp but it renders very nicely and the CA performance is top notch. I have a natural love of 85's and 135's...I have thus far kept my 85 purchases limited to the Loxia for landscapes and used my 100GM for portraits...I think I'll dip my toe in the AF 85mm pond with this Sigma. Christmas present? Maybe.

Incredible resolution and contrast with very low axial CA. Wow!
There is moderate pincushion distortion and some vignetting but these are my favorite imperfections since they are easy to correct in-camera or in post.
This was unexpected from Sigma. They designed a compact lens with superb IQ performing even better than their previous giant.
The Sony 85/1.4 GM may have lower distortion and rounder specular highlights but it won't be able to match this Sigma's price, CA correction, AF speed and resolution wide open.

I was just thinking... positively spitballing here... but maaaaaaybe we could get a 40 1.4 dg dn with similar characteristics?
Absolute fantasy, I'm pretty sure. Just can't get over how much I'd want a standard prime with similar weight reduction and performance improvements. Sigma has really outdone themselves with this one.

The ability to innovate in general in the crowded 85mm space is really impressive, and then they went the extra mile to deliver such a polished product is very remarkable.

I’m concerned about Dustin having his copy of the Samyang out of spec now... I really need to take care of mine. Still super happy with it, but I’m curious to try the sigma. The Samyang also has minimal LoCa.

It is impressively small. Almost looks the same size as the Batis 85mm. I really had no interest in this at all because I have been liking my small Samyang 75mm. But the gas is building now that I see it's size. Just have to keep telling myself, I don't need this, i don't need this , I don't need this....

Wow !
So now we have how many primes from Sigma which are built for mirrorless?
35/1.2
85/1.4
So there is a room for 24 and 50..

This lens (from the reviews so far) and the 24 f/1.4 GM are the two lenses that deliver the whole package. Relatively small size, excellent performance, and quite reasonable price.

Yup, now we just need a small 50mm 1.4 and it will all be finally coming together. Cummon Sigma, we know you can do it now.

I know we have the outstanding Sigma 35/1.2 DG DN but Sigma should still release a more compact 35/1.4 DG DN. Many shooters shy away from carrying giant lenses.
Maybe their plan is for a more compact Sigma 28/1.4 DG DN? I don't mind that either.
