Canon missed an opportunity.....they should have sold an R5 accessory grip that contains heat sinks and cooling fans

It should be an integrated grip. Perhaps in the R5S or R5V?

True that....I don't shoot video....I don't care about any of the video modes or heating stuff.
If the R5 can track and focus like an A9 at 45MPs even if required to use 12FPS some of the time, I'm sold, at least once the 100-500 comes out and/or when the performance and any AF/EVF limitations of adapting the 400DOII becomes a known thing.

What needs to be seen is if a little square on a bird's head/eye in the EVF actually translates to a focused head/eye in the final image. I know with my A7RIV and 200-600 the focus squares look perfect while shooting but that certainly only translates into a proper focus plane some of the time.

I heard they're offering a free bag of marshmallows with every R5 pre-order now... they considered hot dogs, but were afraid they might be too messy.

Personally I think it is way overblown. The amount of data alone that 8k or even 4k 120 produces means people will only be recording a few minutes at a time. Then there is the massive amount of processing power and memory needed for the desktop or laptop to actually use and process the videos. It just seems people are complaining about something that they aren't going to utilize a whole lot of anyway, and if they are, then buy something more suited to the task.

I am surprised they didn't offer a free EF-RF adaptor with an ND filter!

iPad Pro can make short work of 4k/120, I'm curious to see how it handles 8K. iPads could become a go-to editing device in the near future for stuff like this.

I wonder if the risk of fire will mean these cameras aren't permitted on airplanes, and whether or not it will invalidate owners' liability insurance?

Right. Ask yourself this question - who are the people who are complaining? The ones who do a lot of video work and want a super-compact 8K video camera that works (in La La Land maybe) ... and the looky-loos from the other side of the fence! Canon has reported (and thanked us) that sales have exceeded all exceptions. These 2 cameras are a huge success! They have scored! 'nuff said.

Serious or pro users can get the C300 Mark III.

Order it from Amazon and check the box for the "3 Year Camera Accident Protection Plan" and you are covered!

OL At what compression?
,
Because everyone's computer is so much slower than an iPad now, that Apple only charges $1200 for something that works better than their $5k computers.

There showing one's backside, and then there's yelling out of it. This is the latter. iOS and iPad Pros in particular are premier editors of high resolution RAW photo and video with their highly optimized CPU/GPU pipeline and monster data throughput.

iPad Pro has removed the need for the $5000 PC, but hey, go build or buy one if you're still stuck in the stone age of editing.

So it's really just the high speed and oversampling modes that have heat related time restrictions. With some thought and planning, it should be doable.

I'm coming to this realization. I need to replace my ancient 9-y-o Mac laptop. I don't like the 13" options and the 16 is too large for my preference. It really just leaves the iPad Pros. Based on some performance comparisons I've read, they outperform the 13" in some metrics while being the size and weight I prefer.

The biggest current drawback of the iPads currently, IMO, is the lack of equally functional apps compared to standard 'desktop' photo editing software, but it seems to be improving.
