You are buying a better camera thoug, and it's new.
I've run the numbers and the changeover is ~$5-7K, which is OK given I'm selling used and buying new.
I also am able to depreciate the new gear, the old stuff is almost all depreciated already, so a bonus for the business.
No, I am not buying a better camera, since I have no use for things you might think to be better. I use none of the movie functions.
The stacked sensor is unmatched so far and an ingredient part of my work. No black-out, super fast read out, silent shooting, class-leading AF, excellent battery life.
If doubt the 5k$ number, to be honest, unless you are selling almost brand new A9iis and lenses. My experience is you never get as much as expected and need a lot of other stuff, too. It would make more sense to get a new A7siii instead. You stay within an ecosystem, you know weaknesses/strengths/routines perfectly well etc. In the end the new system doesn't live up to the expectations and then?
My experience doing this for quite some time is switching system has less benefits than expected.

Matt Granger makes a few good points.
As a photographer mainly, not video shooter, I do wish there was a R5.5 in the middle of the R5 and R6. 36-40mp, no 8K video, new/better battery, slightly better price. I personally think 8K should be put in specialized systems, not for the "masses" - in a general purpose camera.
I really like the Canon Australia intro video Matt included to kick off his own video:
"When you invent the game, you own the game. Sure you let others play the game because when you get pushed you push back harder. Some said you lost your edge, but you know the game is not won at half time. The game is won by beating yourself, persistence keeps you going. No matter what the bumps, this is where you belong. When you own the game you can change the game. Introducing the first Canon 5 series mirrorless camera, the all new Canon EOS R5."

Sounds like middle school team sports psychology tricks. Do you really think this works, I mean, outside of the US?

Uh, that was an Australian video for a Japanese company. And yes, marketing does work. It got you to respond, didn't it?

It is now all but confirmed that the A7SII successor will not have 8K. There is a strong rumour that it has some sort of silent passive cooling system. The A7s won't compete on the 8K spec but it may end up being a more practical 4K camera than the R5. These recording limits to overheating shutdown are not unexpected or totally unreasonable considering the size and weather sealing of the camera. But they have to be a serious consideration for videographers. I think what is more troubling is how long it takes to cool and be able to shoot more footage.

As an Australian (kinda) I apologise for Matt.
If the A7S3 doesn't have 8K it's going to lose sales. 8K doesn't matter but that's not how selling cameras works, it's a shame Sony couldn't do it.

I am just really, really glad Canon has finally gotten a strong sensor. One that in some ways are superior to Sony's. Sony still has BSI going for it, which was an amazing step forward. And I haven't been able to come to that conclusion in a long time.

The newest rumour from SAR about the Sony A7s3 is that it will have a stacked 12mp sensor with unlimited time 4k recording. And the name of the camera will indeed be A7s3.

I expected problems in such a small body with 8k, but didn't expect the 4k issues. Man, I remember the discussions regarding Sony overheating problems, with numerous Canon fans claiming it to be a no-go for interviews and stuff.
Well...

Not so sure about the practical value of 20min 8K in today's typical environment. But for sure bragging rights. Canon has been hibernating for a long time. So even 20min 8K is certainly one way to come out with a bang or a fireball...

Yeah, that's kinda silly. I think they are reinforcing the biases of Canon fanboys and not reaching out to folks who shoot other brands.
That commercial is so much bragging it could backfire or maybe overheat?
