p.1 #1 · Comet Neowise over Golden, Colorado

This morning (7/7/2020) was my first sighting of Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE, and it is proving to be a worthy comet after Comets Atlas and Swan recently fizzled. It will be a morning comet for the next week or so, but then will move 'below' the sun, turning it into an evening comet as we approach the new moon. Image captured from a Bottle Class 6-7 area (abundant light pollution from Denver) using Canon 7DII and 70-200/2.8L II (1s, f/2.8, ISO 1600, 88mm).

This is the best northern hemisphere comet since PANSTARRS in 2013, so get out and see it!

More details here.

Hoping for a clear morning tomorrow. Got up this morning at 3:30 to get up the hill and setup and I was clouded out. Perfectly clear by 6am though, with the sun up...

No tracking, just a single shot?
Thinking of using the 70-200 Sigma with and without the 2x TC. Was going to setup my tracker... not sure if it will make a difference. I do want some landscape in it - have some ideas but need to get eyes on it first and then plan some alignments.

Oh that's cool! I didn't even know about this but will have to check it out and see if I can catch it.

Thanks for the heads up and nice shot!

Single shot. I wouldn't bother with the tracker, the sky is too light for it to make a difference.

Lovely. Did the setting moon affect in any way at all? Thanks.

Nice shot. Good to hear it is so bright, haven't seen it yet. Got out the scope for C/2017 T2 a couple weeks ago but overall it's been pretty cloudy here. Thanks for the heads-up, supposed to clear up or at least stop raining

Also a couple others about 7 mag.

Sure did! It decreased contrast in the tail, obviously, and provided some fill light on the cliffs.

Tried to image Atlas and Swan in dark skies in UT a few weeks ago, got a big, fat nothing... This comet is special, and it will get closer to Earth (though farther from the Sun) over the next two weeks or so. Once it turns into an evening comet you won't be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a Neowise image... lol

Nice image, Jeff. I wasn't excited about this comet after the last busts, but you've changed my mind.
