I didn't appreciate the Tamron 28-200 until I noticed the exceptional sharpness of this lens - at least my copy of it. It reminds me of the sharpness of the 100-400GM I had.
I went whale watching with the SO for the first time ever. Never shot wildlife before and didn't know what to expect. Brought my widest-range lens (Tamron 28-200) and was able to capture lots of dolphins but no whales. Here are 2 of the dolphins:
I’m not disappointed with the image quality of the 28-200. Enjoyable one-lens solution for me when dragging around the full bag of gear is not possible or desired.

Hey Ross. Thanks for reviving this thread. Just forwarded it to my grandson as his a7lll and 28-200 just arrived. I tried a search for this lens the other day but couldn't get a hit. I told him today that there were some very talented photographers using the Tamron. Nice to see I wasn't lying Beautiful shots !

Ah, thanks for the kind words, Gary! I hope your grandson has an epic trip, I bet the 28-200 will serve him well 👍
I recently picked up this lens to use for a family summer vacation. After reading a lot of the reviews here and looking at photos it looked like it would be a great travel lens. I still had some reservations about it and wasn't sure how much I'd like it, but I have to say that it exceeded all of my expectations. The combination of small size, great range, and excellent image quality are hard to beat. It was on the camera for 90% of the trip and I really liked the output I got from it.
