Great portraits KD.
The human population is out of control....hence nature tries to intervene with a virus...unfortunately we are all selfish and try to stop it from running its course. At least when the asteroid hits we won't be able to stop it....

Lovely images. I spend a lot of time thinking and trying to come up with one thing man has done that has improved the planet since he started walking upright. His deeds of destruction are too vast to mention but I can't think of a single thing he has done that has benefited the planet and not himself. The earth will survive once we are gone but the destruction and elimination of other species will be our most grievous transgression.

KD you really got in tight and some great impact on the eyes and facial expressions on these. The cat shots are beautiful with those eyes and light. Great expression on the Angry Langur, and your bare 'asses' at sunset are stunning

Now that much of our country here in the U.S. and much of the world is in isolation. The Earth, without humans out and about is coming back. Waters normally dark and polluted are now clear. It's been reported recently that the earth has seemed to settle down since humans have been less active. You are correct that the Earth has a way of finding equillbrium. But it has a much easier time doing it minus humans.

A beautiful set of portraits! I agree with your commentary on being out of balance. The wildlife you show are declining rapidly because their natural balance is being destroyed by human intervention. We need to do more to restore their balance and find the right human balance.

Another point of view...
This isn't nature intervening at all. Early signs and scientific studies point to the origin of the disease as the result of a bunch of careless individuals using poor food handling practices and carrying on unwise traditions of consuming things not meant for human consumption. There's no evidence that nature created a virus and tried to infect the human population to reduce our numbers and overall footprint.
I understand that I'm in the minority, certainly here, but I don't think overpopulation is a problem at all. As far as I can tell human ingenuity is our most precious resource without question. Imagine that in the effort to curb population an Einstein, Tesla, Newton, Edison, Galileo, Gibbon, Jobs, never get born. What if Lincoln, MLK, Mother Teresa, Obama, or Mandela were never born? Scientific collaboration that leads to unimaginable technological advancements is a result of incredible minds coming together. I wouldn't want limit or reduce the number of geniuses we get.
In the end, we do have problems, many if which are our own doing. But I like the approach of Matt Damon in the recent movie The Martian. When faced with the insurmountable task of trying to survive on Mars alone for multiple years without enough food or water his response was something along the lines of "Well that's a problem. Good thing I'm a scientist. I'm just going to science the s$&$ out of it." That's what we humans do. IMO of course.
