p.2 #1 · Will Canon or Any Company Release an Olympic Surprise?

You aren't understanding the marketing language they are using. They claim it is a way fo doing IBIS we haven't seen. is it like their video modes where you just get a cropped image? I want to see how their tech works before putting my eggs into the basket. Also, their claim is that IBIS works with x stops with RF lenses but does it work at all with their EF glass adapted? What if you put EF glass on with IS turned off? there are a LOT of unanswered questions that people need answers for before even thinking about

Yes everything you bring up is certainly a concern.
And yes Canon can and has done thing very differently at times. Back in the old days when Nikon ruled the roost, canon could have marched right into that dead-end box canyon right behind Nikon with a mechanical driveshaft AF system. Canon being different, chose instead to develop a new battle strategy and came out with EOS. I imaging plenty were pretty unable to relate to that un-mechanical system at the time.
With the 1Dxlll they could have stripped the AA filter off the sensor but they didn’t. According to Canon that new system gives the lll the IQ of 24mp. Maybe it’s all marketing but many mklll shooters say it works.
Personally I’ll let the Canon engineers do the heavy lifting for me. I’ll let them figure out how to incorporate IS to whatever IB system they choose.
Will they put out something that will force every Canon pro over to Sony...., not likely. Will it work? I’ll let it be their problem to solve. They’ve probably already thought of everything you’ve mentioned..., maybe! LoL
I’m likely ok with whatever they come up with.
And maybe, just maybe, it’ll be out in time for the Olympics next year. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the 1Dx is a sports camera FIRST and every other genre just adopts it!!!

Given the impressive details of the R5 so far it's hard to believe that Canon would wait till 2022 to update the flagship to ML. If the R5 body was slightly bigger I'd just get that and ditch the 1D series.

That said, coronavirus may well have put a dent in the development cycle.
