p.1 #1 · Isolation in Yellowstone

Here are a few from Yellowstone from last week. The park has now been shut down to protect the local and neighboring denizens.

Need my fill - yes a carcass will do.

Minimum distance of 6 feet - the bear knows when these ravens are too close

Got my eyes on you

An itchy spot needs to be taken care of

Portrait of a Pronghorn

An experience of a lifetime - stranded between a carcass and a car with this Wall in between.

the picture of the bison is spectacular.
The way that the first one leads the line is incredible.
Great picture

Beautiful work, Bibek!! Love the bison attitude. Looks like they are well drilled in roadblocks.

Louie,

I had the best time of my life. Isolated from the world with only about 50-100 folks in the entire park. Have never seen this in any of my trips. It was an experience for sure. Thanks a lot.

Thank you Daniel. dropping down on the pavement helped me to be less intimidating and save myself from the rampage. Yes I did get up before they got any closer. :-)

Ken,

This is among my most memorable experience with wildlife. I had seen a carcass in with some ravens around it. Expecting to see more, I had parked the car at a pull out some 500 yds from it and walked. Before I left the car, I had made sure there was nothing around me, the grizzly or the bison were my concerns. Not a peep. The walk over and inspection was a matter of 10 minutes. Just as I was preparing to come back to the car, this Armageddon appeared :-( I had not idea what to do. I could climb on the hills or stay in the ditch on either side of the road. I chose the latter. Fortunately the bison did not feel threatened, and slowly walked past. Phew!

Thanks a lot Bobby. Glad I made it there and back before the shutdown here and in the park.

I can understand shutting down visitor centers and such, but to just shut the whole park seems stupid to me. People need places where they can go and spread out.
I really think a lot of it is just laziness on the part of park people. It's just easier for them to close it so they don't have to do anything.

Those bear images are great but the last 4 images are superb. And my favorite is the last one of the bisons; it is a stunner, Bibek!

What a terrific set of photos! I love the bison photo, perfect in black and white, and the symmetry is amazing. The front three all have their right foot forward.

Initially I had the same feeling, however, having seen the aging population in Gardner, I understand. Someone on Facebook also chided me for having gone there at this time. So folks in the satellite neighborhoods seem really scared. Whatever works for everyone is ok with me. The park services are pretty minimal now anyway given that it is the shoulder season.

Joshua,

Thanks a lot.. between the freezing temp, snow and the sparse visitors, this has been my best experience of the many in this winter wonderland. Yes the Only thing was that the wolves were a mile away, but I cannot get everything 😩
