p.1 #1 · Panasonic G9 help with setting Joystick focus centering
My G9 is set up using the Custom settings so that I have my BIF settings in C2. What I want to be able to do is re-center my focus point using a push on the Joystick, as I can do in the Manual setting. My camera uses firmware 2.0 and I wonder if the issue is that with animal and face detection on, the joystick re-centering function is somehow disconnected. It becomes an issue for me when I inadvertently touch the rear screen in C2 and have a focus spot that is off center and not way to return it to the center position except turn off the camera and turn it on again, or use a touch with my finger to reset the focus point where I want it. I noticed that if the autodetect for face or animal is unaffected bye where I have placed the focus point. But if autodetect is not functioning because I am trying to focus on another kind of object like a flower even though I am in my BIF mode, I need to use the focus point wherever is is on screen. I would much rather just push the joystick and have the focus point returned to the center of the screen.
Any thoughts?

So I think this issue has less to do with Custom mode and more to do with Face/Eye/Body/Animal Detect being enabled. I did a bit of poking around and when I have FEBAD on, the focus point can't be interacted with at all by the joystick, even though the Joystick setting is set to D.Focus Movement. I encountered the same issue you did, where if I touch the screen I move the focus point and can't get it back without leaving FEBAD.
Which, was the best compromise I could come up with. I set my M and Custom modes with the settings I wanted for both (including the size of the AF Area in FEBAD), and configured the front mode lever switch to turn FEBAD on and off. It's not perfect, but assuming I can keep the same settings for whatever I'm shooting in each mode with FEBAD on or off, it makes things somewhat more usable. Good luck!

Yup it has to do with the face/eye/animal detection rather than any custom mode you have.
There are some solutions to it I guess, one is disable the touch interface (should be possible to set it disabled for just the C2 mode I believe).
The easiest solution just involves another muscle memory though, the Disp button, lower right of the camera, always centers and resets your focus points (unless you've reassigned it). So no matter what focus mode you are in, when you have the focus selection point selection up (meaning if you touch the screen once and enable focus area change or if you move the joystick just one step) you just have to press Disp once to center the focus point, press it one more time and you reset it back to normal.
For example, you are in Custom Multi mode and decide you want to move the focus area to the upper left and then change the size to 4 points rather than the (21?) standard points. All of the sudden you wanna get back to center and to normal size. You touch the screen once, or the joystick in any direction. After that you press Disp once which brings the focus area back to center but keeps the custom size, you then press it once more and it resets to defaults size for that focus mode.
Btw, if you scroll your dials when in focus select mode you also have other settings such as focus point size (or number of points). Back wheel changes the size in large intervals and the front wheel in small intervals (where available).
