You are going to love this lens!
I am loving it, i was about to buy a Leica 50mm f1.4 summilux asph, when I came across this thread, the images posted have shown me the special attribute i look for in a lens and i bought one immediately.

Yes. The classic solution to all lens questions! Own both. : )
I took the ZA and the APO with me this morning on my daily walk with my dog and tried to snap some photos of the same subject with each lens at the same (or at least close) settings. Here are a few for comparison. The most obvious thing I notice is that the APO has much more vignetting than the ZA.
I can’t see the difference, it's difficult to choose one.

I agree. I have the 50 1.4 ZA and don't mind carrying the weight. I had the 50 APO on its way but called the store before it arrived and sent it back for the Sigma 35 1.2 - so now I have a very large 35 and a somewhat large 50
Tested Kenko AC 500 49mm on the 50 APO. Short summary is I think it's just as good as the Marumi achromat, and aesthetics wise it suits the CV very well.
Do you think or better yet know whether this lens paired with the Marumi DHG (or other achromatic diopter lenses) can keep up with a Batis 40 or Zeiss Makro-Planar?
I have the CV110 but generally prefer 50mm for everyday use.
I think it kind of depends on your usage. Compared to Batis 40, I would say it's at least even. Without having same lens in same condition side by side I couldn't tell you for sure. But you have to screw it on and off vs built in plus AF for B40. I'm going to order the rapid filter system and see if there is any IQ difference resulting for the air gap distance. If not then you can have quick semi macro access, but you end up adding another bulk factor.
Makro Planar or any macro probably not, but I'll be using this for my casual magnification general shooting kit. If you have R4 there might be enough res to not be able to tell a fit view image for most digital delivery.
I vaguely remember the Zony 50 1.4 had similarish results stopped down.
And thanks for the C1 exif thing, will see if I can add profile
I've had the Batis but sold it again. Its close-up performance wasn't one of the reasons. Fumbling around with close-up lenses is always a PITA compared to a lens that does it natively but neither the Batis nor the 50mm Makro-Planar convinced me as a whole.
The Batis is better than the Makro-Planar (up to 1:3.3 at least), btw.
So if you say the CV + diopter is even, then I'm even more intrigued by it now.
From experience I can tell you that magnification gets lower the further away the close-up lens is from the front element.
Well for highest IQ, I would say skip the rapid flip up system. Now thinking back I think that was the reason that softened my image and not the filter that was attached to it...
But for convenience and casual shooting it's pretty nice. Doesn't really add much weight or size.
You can see from normal view full size it's alright (and can be supplemented with post). But if you zoom in it's pretty obvious. Mag is a little lost as expected but negligible. The loss of resolution is bigger factor. I'll be returning the flip up adapter, but I think for some it's worth the speed of access (one less thing to carry off cam).
