The samples I've seen from the 40 and 50 f1.2 all show significant purple fringing wide open. Presumably you're referring to those two lenses being used stopped down for shiny metal surfaces or are you saying that they don;t have pf issues (wide open)?

You are right, I was referring to using them stopped down for those purposes. To be fair I rarely use the CV40 wider than F1.8 (heresy, I know).
You can copy the whole BBCode snippet, just put a carriage return after the first close url tag and the following open url tag, to keep it from wrapping.
My CV 65 and CV 50/2 make similar sounds, with the CV 50/2 being slightly louder. I have a 40+ year old Pentax in my bag and it makes no sound at all when focusing.
I've used the CV 65 more at this point, so that may have some impact on the difference.
I did a brief LoCA comparison between the CV65, CV50 and Samyang 45mm (the CV65 I already returned).
I know there has been a lot of discussion about this topic, but maybe this is useful to some.
I've been one of those doubters and ended up purchasing the lens anyway. Will need to do more testing, but so far I like it a lot
They both feel smooth when focusing. The sound might be due to the fact that everything is "tight" and will sort of loosen up with use, but I could be completely snowing myself with that line of thought.
I personally wouldn't worry about it as long as it feels smooth.

Ok, could be just grease or something then. It is not loud enough to bother or concern me, just wanted to know whether I am the only one ;-)

My copy is a bit noisier/grittier than I would have expected. It only is noticeable when I turn the focusing ring rapidly. When turning it at a normal speed it is silent and smooth. My CV40 1.2 make a similar noise with rapid turning of the focus ring, but it is a tiny bit more subtle than on the 50 2. I don't think this is a defect. Perhaps it will disappear as the parts wear in a bit over time. I'm not at all concerned.

If anything, the 50 looks like it might be a hair better than the 65. At worst they are neck and neck. As I have been saying all along, while a little bit of LoCA is demonstrable with this lens, it is functionally insignificant and the lens is very well controlled for CA. That's why I was getting a bit exasperated when the discussion about CA seemed to be the main focus of the discussion in this thread for such an extended period of time. Glad you didn't let it dissuade you from trying the lens out. IMHO, it's a gem of a lens.

I beleive the level of APO'ness is variable. My 65/2 showed next to no CA wide open using the text on paper, and the fountain of water in sunlight torture test, but other users saw higher levels of CA.

I doubt that there is much sample variation in the CA amount in these lenses.
But the situations that provoke it are very sensitive to small differences in subject distance, what’s in front and behind focal plane and at what distance, angle and intensity of light, and so forth. So it’s possible to get different results from quite similar looking tests.
Thanks Tim, I'll google what that means....hahahaha. tsdevine wrote:

@Keepcoding, wow you got one, Im sure you will love it, hopefully see a report on your blog. As for the noise, its definitely there on the 3 lens I have but unless its quite and I'm listening, I never hear it.
I'm trying to decide between the normal voigtlander lenses, i don't have enough money to afford duplicates, so for a landscape / portrait /everiday what do you think will do best, the 50 1.2, the 50 f2 or the 40 f1.2?
They will ve paired with the loxia 21, voigtlnader 21 1.4 or gm 24 1.4, not sure which of them I will pick either.
