Leica make - in APO form - 35-50-75-90mm. See below for infinity perfomance of the SL 35/2 APO, see the general shape of the curves resemble the CV APOs. It's a 13/11, and is lighter/shorter/smaller diameter (67mm filters) than the FE Sony 50/1.4 ZA and 340g/much smaller than the Sigma 35/1.2 - with very technical AF. It's significantly stronger at f2 than the Otus 28mm is at f4. New glass makes the previously impossible entirely plausible, especially for Cosina. Would a 550-600g 35/2 APO-Lanthar suit you?
That is a very relevant comparison. I wouldn't call the SL f/2 APO lenses small, but they are an interesting reference point. I don't see Voigtlander going that route, and this 50 f/2 APO is much smaller than the Leica SL 50 f/2 APO but I agree it is possible that Voigtlander could make a 35 f/2 APO, it just seems it may well be quite a bit larger. Personally, although I also think the SL f/2 APO lenses are very interesting, I would rather have a sharp, small, and fairly well corrected 35 lens. I don't need a full APO lens if it is going to bloat the size.

Hi all,
there is a group now opened by Mister Chebak on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/groups/14634223@N25/ (hope he doesn't mind me mentioning this ). So there is also a nice other way (like here :-) ) to pool these photo's.

Hi DanielBB!
Your post made me register
I searched on a Flickr for a photo from this lens, and to my disappointment I did not find it. This fact prompted me to create a group.
I got the lens on Friday, but we have terrible weather...
Thanks Fred and all the other providing the review, opinions and photos. After seeing all the posts I decided to order the lens. I found the last German online shop which got the very last copy of this stunning lens. The lens sells like hot cake!

I picked up my copy yesterday and immediately ran Fred’s decentering test—perfectly symmetric. I’ve never previously encountered a lens whose corners wide open are hardly any different from the centre. The APO-Lanthar 50/2 is a perfect match for my recently acquired A7R4 and I can see it remaining on the camera, set at f/2.8, for the foreseeable future. I’ll be using it for street and portrait photography, ignoring the confident assertions made in this thread that MF lenses are completely unsuited for such purposes.
It looks like this CV 50/2 APO will have low variation as you are the fourth FM member with a perfectly symmetric copy.
This reminds me of the Loxia 50/2 which from my experience, has low variation as well.

It's not that MF lenses are completely unsuited for street and portrait photography, but using MF lens will waste Sony's excellent AF performance, such as eyes AF, automatic tracking, left/right eyes switch, etc, when you buy a camera, you have to pay for these features, so why not use these features more?
If I could buy a camera without those features (maybe even for a lower cost?!) I certainly would. But I can’t, so I’m stuck having them and not using them. Why not use them? Because I don’t want to and prefer photographing without using them.

Many times "like". If I could buy a camera with no AF, no video, and all the other stuff I don't use, I'd be perfectly happy.
Hi everyone, I received my copy a couple days ago, but I notice when I rotate the focus ring it seems to produce a bit noise. I heard similar noise when I was zooming my lens which had some sand inside accidentally. I have never heard similar thing on my Leica M lenses though. I don't know if it's common or mine might be defected.

Fred, does this look in line with your copy? These are at F/5.6, corrected for vignetting.
No it’s not normal. Just because a lens doesn’t cost 5-8k doesn’t mean it should sound like it has sand in it 😂
I don’t own this lens but I’ve had Loxias where the focus ring didn’t feel right on a specific copy. Manufacturing glitch.

Yes , Germany is sold out :-) . And let me add : . My copy is perfectly centered as well .
Mine is nicely dampened and no sound while focusing. No sound as well with the aperture when declicked.

I'm sad to see that it's not as great as the 65mm and 110mm in reggards of LoCA. That's what I dislike the most in my Zony 55mm f/1.8. But I believe that this VC 50mm still considerably better than the Zony, right?
I also would like to see how much sharper it is compared to the Zony when both are in the MFD.
I don't know what you are hearing, but in the video at spec time I hear the noise of turning aperture ring nothing else...
don't have the 50 apo, but I do own a 3.5/21 and 1.2/40 and they both make a sound you could say it sounds like there is sand in there when turning the focus ring - but you would have to hold the lens next to your ear to hear it...

thank you, I tried to look up online, this is the only video I've found yet.
I think his copy has the same noise as it can be clearly heard at 1:35:20, and again a few seconds later when he turned the focus ring again.
