New math v old math, don't know
I like the elcan much like Fred just stated, for me it really doesn't matter, I use the lens I am not flipping it as rare, I like it, and compared to something like a Voigtlander it is the same range of price, so I am happy enough with my possession and use. If in some years wherever my lenses land someone (family) can or cannot flip it for a good price, I don't care. I have lots of Nikon, Voigtlanders etc and don't ever consider whether the lenses are limited, indeed I assume all lost of much value having been driven off the lot (new Leicas certainly do !). I do have some vintage lenses, like a 1966 rigid, I have a good copy and it would flip for not that much more than a new LLL rigid even being 60 years old and in good shape, and a desirable vintage leica. The value to me is in the use..... and I know it is not rare like a "real" elcan, but then again I am very not likely to buy an original. So if it is mass production, so are most of the others (well maybe not ms-optics, but most of the others). The only thing important is to be satisfied with what I can do with the glass, if I am, it is worth every penny.

First of all, they have different colors, black, chrome, steel, even special edition like bare copper.
Secondly, each color has many batches, like V1L, V2L…..
Then every batch has about 998.
They can produce tens if not hundreds of thousands.
Believe me, I’m a Chinese and when I say Chinese do mass produce, they do. Never believe the “limited” crap.
And nothing is ever sold out. Go to aliexpress, eBay, temu, you can find any color of eclan for half of the official price.
