It looks like LLL is going to remake the Leica 40 mm f/2 Summicron-C (Minolta M-Rokkor 40/2).
The original is not an expensive lens, so I'm not sure about pricing here.
It’s an odd choice, the lens is not uncommon and indeed affordable, it’s not even that practical for M users. I don’t know if the lens is that much appealing nowadays, it was more of a novelty back then.
Maybe it’s the small light lens you mentioned they needed to replace the discontinued Elcan.

Yes, that could be it. They discontinued the Elcan and maybe this was the replacement. I actually like the way the 40/2C renders, but the focus shift can be frustrating when using it on a rangefinder.

I really do found it interesting that the first thing everyone thought of would be the 40mm Summicron.
Just one small thing however - the body does not look like the 40mm Summicron at all.

True, but you did give us that clue, which at least tells us it's a 40/2. It doesn't look like a replica of an old lens...maybe a completely new design by LLL?
btw, I think the LLL on the nameplate is pretty cool.
Interesting, the astrhori 45 was pretty good on 33x44 but this is 40mm and 3 stops brighter with seemingly low vignette? But only restricted to return customer means you need to have ordered a lens from LLL directly or does a distributor purchase count?

It used to be available through PopFlash, but I don't think that partnership is active anymore. You'll likely need to purchase it directly from the LLL website.
I asked that question the other day and I am optimistic that prior distibutor puchases like popflash will be included in offering but we will know when the big reveal occurs.

“Blind box”, doesn’t that mean that there will be X-number of variants with one rare variant, and every purchase/box is a random chance at any?
The meaning of "Blind Box" has a different connotation in this case. I am currently in writing this development blog post with other projects.
Would love to discuss more once the announcement is made.
My guess is that 'Blind Box' here doesn't mean a random variant or lottery. LLL probably just uses it as a name for a prototype that's still under wraps until they're ready to share more. It looks like we will likely find out the details once their development blog post is up.
