Haha! Yeah I'm weak on bierd ID. What ever it is I like them and they come to the back forty often. And they give me opportunity, unlike the J's, of which I've been trying for two weeks and nothing

There are a large number of images in this A7RIV thread that seem to me to have a greater sense of depth and more of a 3D quality than most images have. They are taken by different lenses, FOV, and by different photographers. Those above are great examples.
Is there any technical reason why a higher definition sensor might produce that effect even on web-sized images?

For that image for example its just Sony's dynamic range in general, and maybe the propensity to use this camera for landscape. The depth in the image of mine you quoted for example comes mostly from the natural light, location, and objects in the image (busy foreground, more around the edges, open water, then objects in the background, with a dynamic light from the sun through the clouds. I don't think thats anything I couldn't have done on an a7 iii for example, it was just fortunate timing and me finding a good spot. The dynamic range did help pull up shaddows in the log/foreground which does help.

This is merely a guess, but maybe it's because the higher resolution is allowing for the out of focus areas to achieve a smoother, painted look. Higher resolution should allow for a smoother color gradient across the entire field and edges will be more defined. Again, purely speculation and I'll have to try taking similar images with both my a7r iii and iv with the same lens to figure that out.
Experimented with Riv+EOS 1.4TCiii +400DOii.
Shot in full on 61mpx, then big crop in post.
AF is fine for perched. Slower than plain eh, but gut says
OK for BBIF (eagles, herons, cranes) but not for the stuff Geoff shoots
Colors out of this combo are pleasing to my eye.
I finally decided to get the RIV to pair with the 135 GM for portable reach - and I was not disappointed! That lens is so sharp wide open it's stunning. It puts the 60Mp sensor to good use. The second photo simply serves to show where I situate myself for balcony shots (though in this case, on the opposite side).

Fantastic! And I say again any BIF naysayers on the Riv should look at your work.
Do you use a red-dot scope of any kind? Just curious.Would seem idea in FF mode/maybe not in cropper.

Thank you, no dot sight used, shot at full frame mode.

I feel like I am seeing more depth and more of an almost 3D effect in many images shot with the A7RIV. Do you see that at all in looking at R4 images? I see that especially in your first image here, but really in all three of them.
It would be nice if there were some effect of higher resolution that made this the case.
Beautiful colors and light Douglas.
Kinda wish I could get my 24-105 back. Poof snatched it up on the trip and never took it off her Rii. I took the Tam17-28 and 28-75 and found myself switching lenses when the 24-105 would have negated the process. Convenience or 2.8 is my situation
She also plundered the 100400. That must be remedied.

Thank you Peter. I am not sure about the 3-D thing. It may have a lot to do with the light. A head to head comparision with the RII or RIII may be able to tell.
