Did I ever tell you guys I grew up in Florida, and back then you could own an alligator. I had one (they don't live long in confined captivity) every year. They are super interesting beasts to a 10 year old.

I love crocs and gators. They have something prehistoric about them. They have a way of surviving that is very effective and they get to live very old. (Didn't know they live much shorter in captivity though).
I hate to see that they are hunted in some areas and in others bred in Farms, but that's a discussion for another forum.
I took my 200-600 out for another try on the R4. It seemed to do ok, but I still think the lens works better on my A9 Osprey 160 by lennycarl08, on Flickr
Douglas, as well as you move/get around, the blossoms around parts of DC are in bloom! Next week around the Tidal Basin......Will await your fine compositions!!

Dan. I was at the Smithsonian Castle for the magnolia on Sunday. I have been going to the Tidal Basin for the cherry blossoms several time a year in the last 5 years, not sure if I want to deal with crowd this year with the virus thing going on.

I don't blame you Douglas! Get there at sunrise or sunset..might be less of a crowd!

My trip to Portugal. All take with the A7rIV and either the 24f1.4, 851.8, 1351.8, or 15f2 Laowa. No tripod. I found it not a problem to handhold this camera even in low light.
Played a bit with an old friend today.
The EOS 400mm F5.6 arrived from LensRentals.
Maybe like me you can't afford the price or the weight of the 400/2.8.
Maybe you wish the 500PF would work on Sony.
Maybe the FE200600 gets a bit heavy after a while.
Maybe the FE100400 is always used at 400mm.
OK, this old timey Canon is neither of the above but I'm happy to report that AF via the latest MC-11
adapter is not instant like with some of the Sonys but it is almost snappy and that is going from focusing on something 100 yards away to this target 40 feet away.
I also targeted many distances in between. If the target had nice defined lines of contrast (like a wooden slat fence) focus was even better than snappy (but not instant). In the Bradford Pear blooms on several occasions I needed to 'wiggle' the camera a bit to get the snap in focus...hopefully that makes sense.
My Titmouses don't linger long but it was fast enough to nab a few shots of them, and a Mockingbird like the early announced arrival of spring via the Bradford Pears. A Blue J showed up at the end to see if the others had found any freebies.
First shot the whole pic, then the crop

So AF is easily fast enough for perched birds (and I'm sure big targets like elephants) and can nab the perched ones at a various focal distances.
BIF? In Zone focus also was almost snappy so my gut says BIF with this combo is possible, even likely.
I also tried the MC-11+EOS 400mm F5.6 on the a9. Worked fine in this very limited test.
Also to note, a crazy full on Sun here...my skin was blistering!

I think that may only be the case for 10 year old owners!
