Some cracking photographs in the thread. I finally bought the A7R IV with the 85mm GM, Sigma 35mm 1.2, and Tamron 28-75mm. I am coming from Nikon D810, and the lightness of my camera bag is very much tangible, if not a bit spoiled by 35mm 1.2. The EyeAF is a revelation. I mean I went in to buy a D850 but the moment I hold the A7R IV, I was sold. It felt so much better in my hands compared to the past A7 series cameras including the A7R III. The viewfinder is great, the menus are a bit convoluted but manageable, and the focus is excellent. Happy days. ...Show more →
I said ' bit convoluted ' first time I shot with Nikon/having shot Sony for a very long time. Just give it a bit of time eh, My Menu is great ,Fn menu is great, programmable buttons linked to a variety of parameters is 10 star. I have parameter sets for AE, AF-On, and Lens button that cover 99%. Youtube will be your friend. Mark Smith is one of several who do really nice walk throughs on programming buttons.
This shot from my first major outing with the a7R4. IMO, this is just about a perfect combination: a7R4, plus Loxia 21 (Loxia 25 is also great). I'm sure the new CV 21's would be very effective as well.
The a7R4 EVF is terrific for MF lenses -- best yet from Sony.
I'm not so impressed with these high ISO images (6400+). I've never seen artifacts from pushed images like these from any other camera. Perhaps, it's the 60mp are jammed in too tight on this sensor that high ISO just sucks. Perhaps we've found the limit on a FF sensor. I was considering an A7R4 over my Nikon Z7 because of the 1.4 native glass and two cards, but now might just wait for the Canon EOS R5 instead.
Thanks for the tip. I will check him out. As it happens, I am on my way to India to attend a wedding. Looking forward to putting the camera through its paces. Should be good fun, especially with eyeaf doing most of the heavy lifting. Now I only need to figure out how to make colours look right. There is something wonky with the raw files. Colours look very different in lightroom and camera raw compared to what I am seeing in the VF.

Nice and congrats on the new tool, i just received notification that my a7rIV has been shipped from the warehouse. Can't wait to test it
I'm not yet going to spend extra on the loxia's but i hope that my adapted EF lenses perform great for now. We'll see.

Congrats to you too!
My quality EF lenses work great with Sigma MC-11, including the better Zeiss ZE.
Note: used prices on beautiful Loxia lenses are getting irresistibly low -- check out the B&S board. I've seen the 21 and 25 Loxia at impressive low prices (recently bought the Loxia 25, and it's a beauty on the a7R4!).
It's been a while since I purchased a new camera at full price (usually wait a year or more for price drops on used models, as I am doing with the Canon R right now). But I don't regret getting on the a7R4 bandwagon a few months after release. Still keeping my a7R2's, at least for now.
Beautiful Hawk Leah. I assume Cooper's? Very very rare here; we just have too many RTH's I'm told by the bierders to allow for Cooper comfort.
We just enjoyed 2 weeks of non-stop rain. Normal here. But was our welcome post a Florida trip. Hard leaving blue sky and Sun for home but I'm used to it.
So a Tit in the gloom of the backyard.

Thanks. We’ve been in total doom and gloom here too. I love your titmouse - they are so jittery and hard to get. They have a overall aqua blue look to them, like their feet.
All I get here are Cooper’s and rarely a Sharp Shinned. They like to feed on the birds I feed. I don’t get to travel...hopefully someday. So backyard birdies for me
Well I will be coming from Canon to Sony soon! The images posted here are just beyond words!!! I have NOT seen such detail except from high end MF bodies. Who wants to pay $25k for what Sony can get you(a7Riv) with a long lens!!
The learning curve is always a challenge for me with any new body. It just makes me go out and shoot more to get me up to speed!

"Double M"..love your watermark!!!!!
And it appears that most any top end, non Sony, lens/glass can migrate to the Sony most excellently!!

Dan don't get the 500PF for the Riv if you want anything close to fast AF. The IQ satisfies me but the AF is woefully lacking via the Commlite compared to a Canon via the MC-11.

Thanks "Double M"! I rarely do BIF or fast motion anymore! I have a very old Canon 500mm non-IS but the glass is perfect and its IQ is dead on for 25 years old. Now if the "fix" for the Sony 200-600 mm/rIV problem is remedied as stated it that thread, I will try that 1st.
I have been graciously offered the use/test shooting of both by a fellow friend/member who shoots with Sony, so I will try that 1st..but I thank you for taking the time to mention this!

Fixed? I missed that post or announcement. Care to show me where?
See Kathy's post about 3-4 posts above mine.
Dan
Thanks Kathy!! If possible please mention what part they replaced or adjusted. So your body wasn't under warranty?
Thanks again!
Dan
The part was the Service Device unit. My camera was/is under warranty and thank goodness since apparently it's like a $1,700 part. According to the Rep I spoke with at Repair, it affects the Shutter Charger, Sensor and Image Stabilization.
I just hope it's fixed. I'm a little skeptical since others are having issues as well. I'm trying to be optimistic.
