Sure you're not keeping the Riv ??
Results are over the top. So versatile it is in your hands. I'd thought
you'd gone hmmmm this is a great B-cam (B as in backup) to the a9/a9ii.
I do know the ergos of the Riv would make any a9 user hunger for the a9. If
Sony had only gone to at least 30mpx I'd be in line.

I'm doing a three day (with forecasted sun) super shoot out that begins at sunrise tomorrow morning. If it brings me results then I will keep it. If I can't realize the type of results I get with A9, D850 then forget about it. The shots above were really cherry picked in between 100s of duds. That isn't what I'm after when I've had a taste of better performance in other cameras.

Got my a7RIV today -- Yay!

In just a few shots, I absolutely love it!

I was "blessed" today with another close California fire storm, blowing the smoke overhead and turning skies orangey-brown. Winds blew so hard, it broke our side gate and the dogs got out -- maybe for a few hours before I noticed. We got them rounded up and in the house while I get to make emergency repairs to the gate -- leaving for Washington tomorrow night! Yikes! Good timing, eh?

Still, I had to take a few shots. . .

I'm guessing I'll be one of the few a7RIV owners to be posting wildfire photos, at least today!

PP using my "normal" range of LR enhancing, but left WB alone.

Living where I do I get to shoot astro very few days a year but I did want to try the Riv.
Going into cropper mode was a charm (many of the deep sky stacking programs don't like
big file, or Sony files, or both).

A7Riv+RedCat 51.
Also posting a pull back of the rig for any interested (pull back via a9+35/1.8)-

Thanks Bob! I need reassurance
I liked it because it was the first time I'd gone from entire setup to finished image and there
is a ton to remember and do. Other than weather, my hold back is painful fingers out in the cold.
The true astro photographers would pick that image apart to where nothing was left but bones.

Cross posting from the a7R focusing thread:

I have a quick help question on the a7R4.

I skipped upgrading to the a7R3, so I might have missed out on something. . .

On both my a7R and a7R2, using manual focus lenses (such as Zeiss ZE, or other "dumb" lenses), these previous lenses had the center button of the Control Wheel default to the magnification in MF mode.

I can't seem to get this or any other button to work for me, and I can't figure out how to program other buttons either -- used to be a snap to do these things with my earlier cameras.

I shoot a lot of MF lenses, so this is a critical feature for me and one of the main reasons I upgraded to a7R4.

Hope someone can help me around my Sony dyslexia!

*****************

I had to wing it with non-magnified focus peaking, which I hate having the image obsured by outlines -- much prefer highest magnification.

Keeping with the thread, here's a few images with MC-11 and ZE 25/2 this morning (Look Ma, no wildfire smoke!).

***************

Just verified that my a7R2 works fine with both dumb adapted FD and MC-11 adapted ZE lenses, using the center button on control wheel and programmed C2 button. No-go for either of these on the a7R4. Arrrggg!

Thanks Robert. That's with no increase in vibrancy or saturation, the CPL filter did its job, the early morning light brought out the colors as well.
