IMHO, as many already stated, the AF of the A9 is so great that the A9 II has to be really a kind of magic to be superior.....because if not ...and considering also that the MB will be not at level of A7 series (42...61)....my guess is 30....the real BIG BARGAIN would be to buy the A9 first version at a very low price (< 2000 usd) once the A9II will be on the market
But I can bet that Sony will surprise us about the specs of this camera

A big start would be x-type phase sensors, improvements in backlight and a big increase of AF calculations/s. If this thing does shoot at 20fps+ @ 36MP, it would need to work at least 50% faster than now which is currently 60 calculations/s. I wouldn't be surprised to see it do higher than 20fps as all of the potential sensors being rumoured can do 28-36fps even in 14 bit mode.
20FPS+ in uncomressed raw would be great, not enough to make me jump to it, but still a great improvement. I wonder if they do that or they do a new lossless compressed format? Maybe it will have the limited super burst mode similar to the rx100 vii (i'd guess slightly less limited though)

It's such a dilemma. The a7r iv is a great camera, but I'm still not sure I need 61MP as I was very happy with the 42MP of the a7r iii. I do like to carry two bodies, but I imagine if the a9ii comes around with 36MP (which, for me, is close enough to the resolution of the a7r iii) I will probably favor it over the a7r iv for an all around camera.
...of course then I will want two
Assuming the A9ii is 36mp and better in low light than the Riv that would be the kicker for me to go the A9ii route Remember in 2013 36mp was the original R for resolution. Sony has come a long way.

If they couldn't even offer lossless compression for the mega A7RIV files I doubt we'll ever see it from them.
I have a big metal print in my house taken with the A7R and "only" 36MP seems to have resulted in a pretty good print....so yea maybe I could survive on going down from 42-36MP. As time goes on, more of the shooting I do (especially indoor sports) could benefit from features of an A9 as opposed to 61MP...but I still kinda want the flexibility in cropping that 61 will give you.
Either way, I'm holding tight with my A7R3 until the dust settles and I decide what's best.
If it is still 24MP even with Q67 CFA, I think it will be a hard sell for me.
But I really wouldn't be surprised if this is the way they went due to the intended sports market. This is what I said months ago but then a bunch of sports guys said they did want more MPs. Then lately I've read a number of posts, blogs from sports photographers that don't want more MPs...just better functionality in getting images off to where they need to go.
We shall see hopefully in the next hour or two. As long as Sony doesn't pull a Nikon and just throw out a "Development" announcement with no specs

I don't mind hanging on to $4500 +. . A9 still does it for me x 100 ( unless the A9II does it better 😉
The Q67, from what I see is not really a CFA change, it's a 45 degree pixel rotation, with the normal CFA, but now horizontal/vertical lines will cut through partial pixels due to the rotation. Of course 45 degree lines will intersect pixels the same way horizontal and vertical lines do now.
Either way if it's a 24mp sensor it relieves my GAS, as I was pondering one with the R4 ... we'll see any minute I guess.
