Some more shots to share from Okinawa. Also, I forgot, I did use the Tamron once when we went to the aquarium in order to go a little wider for some of the exhibits. But the vast majority of shots from the trip (95%) were with the FE35/1.8.
They delivered it today, two days ahead of schedule!
Funny that amaxon.es shipped it from Hannover, Germany.

Well good luck with that. It took 2 months to get it from Amazon ES. On day of dispatching i got email update with further and further delay. Sony collects orders first through Amazon and then proceeds with another low batch. Very low price is to guarantee you order from Amazon and not other supplier. Yo get it much cheaper but have to wait very long.
If you are lucky and there are few left in stock you might get it faster. Fingers crossed

If I could afford to, I would certainly opt to have both for different circumstances. The images from the Sigma are really amazing but the 35/1.8 wins as a one lens solution as it is light for travel/walking around. In fact I brought this and the Tamron 28-75 on the trip and am so spoiled by the weight (and aperture) that I didn’t even use the Tamron once.
I have both.
The Sigma is a massive/heavy "hold by the barrel" type lens. Not fun to carry at all. For me, its purely delegated to paid photography...I had a honeymoon phase with the Sigma and brought it everywhere for a week. It got old fast lol
I'm now back to using the FE 35 1.8 for my personal photography

Exactly this. As good as the images are from the Sigma, I’m always going to end up grabbing the 35/1.8. So it is going to be the best value in terms of daily use. But I do see a use case for both.

Totally agree, I had similar experience with the Rokinon 35 1.4, sold it because it never got used. Also similar with the Sony 50 1.4, though I won't sell that. But the 35 1.8 and the 55 1.8 are such a fantastic complimentary pair, you could add the 24 in there also from a size perspective.

Yeah, I am thinking of the 35 1.8 + 55 1.8 combo. For general indoors and outdoors respectively. Then really want to try out the Samyang 85 1.4 for those dedicated portrait outings (though a bit concerned about focusing, so would need to catch a nice sale on the lens+dock)
Also just went to my daughter's first school assembly where she got an award (with my only lens, the 55 1.8), and think i want that Tamron 70-180 2.8 when it gets released, especially if my kids start doing school activities and/or sports.

I just added the 55 1.8 back to my kit as my compact medium telephoto lens to complement my 35 1.8 which is my compact environmental portrait lens. The 55 will basically be the compact alternative to the 85GM, which I also love, but never use outside of paid work because of the size and weight. I debated getting the FE85, but I find that 85mm working is tough to work with unless you have a lot of space, so less practical as a casual use lens.

Pretty much the same here, except I don’t have the 55. But am looking at that Tamron 70-180 very closely, for the same reasons (school activities at that range). I feel like I would want zooms for the end cap ranges (very wide and very long) that I don’t use as consistently and replace everything in between with primes that I use more consistently.
The Samyang has been great, really. I initially had some reservations after purchasing it but have found it to be amazing. Quite light for the size, sharp, beautiful rendering. You take some risk with their QC issues (rarely) but if you can return it, why not give it a whirl? You have a very high chance of getting an amazing lens that you will love (for a great price).
I’m still not sold on the idea of having 35, 50 and 85. Will I use all three consistently enough to make purchasing the third one worthwhile? I am leaning towards getting a ‘special’ lens for the 50 like the ZA 1.4. I feel like the 55 and 35 would compete for general use lens with one winning out - and that would likely be the one I have already. From what I hear, the 35 and 55 are somewhat similar in output aside from focal length. A difficult decision.

I sold the 70-200 GM as soon as the 70-180 teasers started. It's a day one pre order for me unless there are serious issues with AF or something. I have the 17-28 f2.8 and really impressed with it. I like the 70-200GM, but again, size becomes a detriment to using outside of paid work, and I could really use a telephoto zoom for family stuff. 70-180 isn't exactly compact, but it looks reasonable to carry for what it is.
55 and 35 are pretty close in terms of working distance, but there is a marked difference in FOV. For me the 55 will come in handy when I want more background compression and a less distortion than the 35. 85 has more of a difference and I shoot probably 90% of my paid work on a 35mm 85mm combo.... I just find 85 so hard to shoot with unless I have a lot of space.
This lens is a mixed bag for shooting in IR (on modified cameras). There is a hotspot that becomes very clear when stopped way down. But, the overall IR transmission is quite poor.
Great pictures everyone! Just bought the 35/1.8 and it’s love at first touch. Great build quality. It’s size/weight compliment my a9 just right as a compact package for family time and as a great all around lens. I’m a big fan so far!

Oh, I was totally thinking of picking up the 35 1.8 and the 85 1.4, and then selling off the 55 1.8, but when I brought up my plan to my wife, she said "But I really like the 55, I just want to also have something wider for indoors." I think she'd probably be fine with JUST the 35 and the 55, but I want to try the 85 1.4 too . (With Canon, I had the 135L, and loved it. With Sony, got the Batis 135, but whenever I used it, it just felt like the ISO went too high. This is with kids at the park, in the shade. Or out at the beach, but at sunset. Mostly evening after work stuff. Perhaps I wasn't using it right, and could've brought down my shutter speeds for the OS to do it's thing, but it just felt harder to use than the 135L was. That's why the 85 1.4 plan).
By the way guys, really not trying to de-rail the thread. Totally planning on picking up the 35 1.8 and love seeing all the samples from you guys
