Don't forget to use Fred's link:

Hoping to see more reviews of this lens- A smaller 18mm/2.8 (Batis is light, but not small) would be a welcome addition to my lightweight AF travel kit.

I have one on order. I can report back once I receive it hopefully this weekend. I ordered the lens based on my experience with the Sam/Rok 45mm 1.8 FE lens. I feel Samyang is really starting to come into their own and each of their new lenses improves on the previous models. I also custom neoprene wrap my lenses, so the cheap build quality isn't an issue for me.

The conclusion of this video review from Hong Kong is basically consistent with the following article:

Mine is arriving today, I'll test it out once I receive it. If it's optically anything like their Sam 45mm 1.8 FE, it should be good!

So very good considering it is a small light and cheap UWA, but not stellar?

Size for me is a big consideration. Nikon was the last company to do small and lightweight AF primes, but were designed for film cameras. These new Samyang primes are optimized for higher res while still keeping a small footprint. Even if they aren't perfect, there are always more expensive and bigger lenses when absolute quality is necessary. These Samyang lenses are better suited for street and travel where the size/price are an advantage.

My only issue with Samyang lenses is that their build quality is even worst than entry level kit lenses! The hood for the 45mm 1.8 FE (for example) is almost the same quality as a McDonald's cup lid! I already have a custom neoprene wrap ready for the 18mm when it arrives!

First brick wall test with the Samyang 18mm 2.8 FE + A7III. All the corners except for the top right hand side look sharp wide open. I was hoping to get 4 out of 4 for perfect corners!

Applied slight sharpening and brightness adjustments, vignette and corners are untouched:

The web sized sample looks good to me! Are you happy with what the raw files deliver? Is the lens a keeper?

Props to Samyang for bringing small back to FF mirrorless!

The 18mm 2.8 FE + 45mm 1.8 FE mounted to a pair of A7III bodies:

Heck yeah, this lens is what FF mirrorless is about! The Samyang 18mm and 45mm lenses can retire some of my M-mount glass I was keeping due to compact size. These two lenses are perfect for how I shoot for street and travel. Also it shipped with FW ver. 01 and I haven't found anything strange shooting stills. It seems to focus just fine at near and far distances.

First impressions: Lens focuses fast and silent similar to the 45mm 1.8 FE; It's incredibly compact and reminds me of the old school Nikon AF-D primes, but with all the advancements of modern CAD; sharpness is uniform throughout most of the frame even shooting at 2.8, not as sharp as the Samyang 45mm 1.8, but for a wide angle it's very good; build quality is similar to other Samyang lenses in it's class; it easily accepts screw-in metal hoods if you prefer, I don't think vignetting will be an issue since the front element is quite small.

The last fast-ish AF wide angle small prime I can remember (for full frame) was the Tokina 17mm f/3.5 AT-X AF lens. So it's been awhile since this type of lens has been done!

I’m on my phone, but looks pretty good so far considering the price and size! I thought I was done with lenses, but I think I’m in - I’ve already got their 35 f/2.8, and this would pair with it for an ultralight hiking kit.

Any thoughts on astro with this? I’ll probably pick one up either way, but if it could do night skies well too I’d be super pleased.

Yeah, I think Samyang's latest batch of lenses are really good. I didn't care much for the 35mm or 24mm 2.8, but my copy of the 45mm 1.8 is ridiculously sharp and this 18mm is also very good.

Not sure about astro, I've never shot stars let alone see any in Los Angeles!

I’m very interested in this lens to pair with my 24-105. I have the Loxia 21 but often need something wider. So looking for a small light prime that doesn’t cost the earth as it won’t be used that often (and this may fit the bill).

Waiting to see reviews 🙂

I have the same setup and looking for a ultra wide lens. Reviews look good so far and I might be ordering one to try.

I'm looking forward to the portrait version of this line, perhaps an 85mm 2.8

I am waiting for somebody to try it on Nikon Z along with TechArtPro adapter. If it works then I would order one.

Techart still doesn't officially support Samyang lenses for the TZE-01 adapter. I'd highly consider a switch to the Z, mainly because I prefer Nikon's more affordable telephoto glass via the FTZ adapter and I also prefer Nikon's TTL flash system. Though I feel Sony has the better wide angle options right now, with the 3rd party leading the charge.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, no one has made a compact AF wide-angle FF prime like the Samyang 18mm 2.8 in years. I've been waiting for this sort of lens!

The small Samyang 18/2.8 paired with a A6000 series body, could be an alternative to the Ricoh GR (28mm equiv.) for street photography although the latter still wins in pocketability.

It would have to be a remarkable lens. The GRIII lens one of the best lenses I've ever used.
