I updated my post as you were posting with my 2022 Olympic Games and World Cup prediction. That could actually mean end of 2021 as Winter Olympics fall in Feb.

That's better, we would never hear the end of it from you Sony guys

That AF-ON trackpad is very interesting. I wonder how that will work with BBF also.

Yes and that's sort of inline with that vague rumor about the Pro camera for 2021. I think late 2021 is feasible. Sooner the better and yes 2024 would be way too late.

If canon can bring the tracking up to snuff for BIF I’m in. I think that most wildlife photographers who have used the 1 DX II would agree.

Do you mean for a 1D RF or 1DXIII? Either way, I agree. Although now I'm lacking lenses to shoot with

That sounds awesome.... except I just bought all this rf glass... I love it, really wanted this in Mirrorless so I could get rid of the Ef glass I’m holding on to just for video work on my 1dxii.

Canon Rumors got some tidbits about the 1DXIII beyond the released specs:

The battery life is nothing short of amazing, much better than the 1DX Mark II.
The silent shutter mode in liveview is absolutely silent.
The eye AF works incredibly well (via liveview we are assuming)
The AF-ON trackpad is so innovative, works fast and it very precise. In the source’s words, “it’s a real revolution. Nobody will be using the old joystick”

These came from the source that leaked photos of the camera to them before the announcement.

The Af-on trackpad continues to intrigue me more than anything else. Not that I'd spend $7K

When Blackberry was shipping their phones with micro trackballs, Samsung had an IR tracker instead that worked extremely well. It was also a button, so it served as both a cursor and a 'click'.

I would say that as long as it can be kept clean, is tolerant of contaminants, and works with gloves (etc), it'd be killer.

My impression is it will in effect be BBF while allowing you to move the focus point at the same time. That's the one downside of BBF and moving AF points with the joystick - you can do one at a time only, not both.

wow that track pad sounds so fantastic. sliding your finger around for the focus point and a slight press to fire the shutter. That and the silent shutter would do it for me.

As long as they get the sensitivity right. You don't want to be inadvertently sliding the AF point of the subject at the critical moment. Sounds promising. Overall this looks more like a 1DIV -> 1DX upgrade than minor 1DX -> 1DXII upgrade. Maybe they are copying Intel's tick-tock approach.

On both Sony and Nikon you can set the joystick to activate AF-ON (and other settings if you wish). So those cameras have had this sort of functionality for the past few years. But I think Canon's way of doing it is going to be better as the joystick push is always a little tricky to coordinate with the Sony and Nikon camera.

The 28mpx would be right for me. Not sure why Canon does not even give a hint.
Here in Australia we have the issue a large well known dealer take orders with a
$ 500.00 AU requested deposit. Info give is well this will be the best performing DSLR
ever. At least you in USA do not have this issue both B&H and Adorama just has it
on hold.CFexpress cards are not available as yet either.
Some discussions here are just talk as well.

Just curious. Not interested in buying. I toiled under the heft of a 1DXii for 2 years. Dues paid.

Well you are lucky it is only $500.00. Here in Canada, Henrys, a large camera store chain wants $800.00 to go on a prebook list. Pretty ridiculous....

Nope, not a chance. My prediction is no change to the MP count. Unfortunately, Sony is a trend setter for this one

Not disclosing the MP in the pre-announcement tells me it won't change or change only slightly. I'd say best case is 24. But I think even 24 is highly unlikely.

Some may argue that not disclosing it means they are keeping the surprise of 32MP or something crazy for the full announcement....I just don't think so....

There are a lot of better stores to buy from then them and I'm fairly certain they won't request any deposit.

I'm not sure about that, it won't be 20MP for sure, they've never kept pixel count the same, and it'd be ridiculous to have to do a whole new sensor for the improved DPAF which will require a lot of change anyway since it can operate at 20fps with tracking, 10x the EOS R garbage and keep same or almost the same MP. With 2-3 generations newer digic and CFExpress, It could probably do 36MP at the quoted fps if they didn't need to worry about sport journalists whining about file size and that's the only reason I think it'll be most likely 24MP, but Canon does do weird pixel counts so 28MP isn't far fetched. To me they haven't announced the resolution because they haven't finished testing various sensors. If they can get the file transfer rates over wifi where they need to be @ 28MP and it meets it's metrics on high ISO noise etc they'll offer it. Still 24MP would be the safe option but maybe they will surprise us further, it's already looking to be a bigger upgrade than we normally get.

Its still amazing to me that after reading that entire, jaw dropping, spec list people are still gabbing on about megapixels. What year is it? Are we in 2019 or 2004?
