Thanks, this is perfect as I'm running tilt shift with my Otus 55 on the R3 and maybe the R4 later. Need to go through the tutorials more.

You really sold me on this lens. Tomorrow I'll visit my local dealer and test it out.

I went to the camera store here in town did not have the Sigma or the Tamron. I did own the Sony 12-24 and that’s a option but not sure how they would test out. I think maybe the new A7r4 maybe throwing a curve ball here as well on some lenses. And the funny thing in that is my kids soccer shots with the 135 in crop mode are the best I’ve seen technically that is. So still feeling this body out too. My new CV 40 also was the best of three over time. It’s possible a really good lens maybe even better with the higher resolution . No hard proof folks just gut feelings

The A7rIV with this sigma zoom is a killer hi-res landscape combo. The focus-stacked results I'm getting with it exceed the IQ of my 4x5" film days, and it totally cures me of any further interest in MF systems.

But having said that, I'm always tripod based, and if I were shooting hand-held for long lengths of time, I'm not sure its the lens I'd want to carry.

Don't forget it's also an amazing nightscape lens.
Thanks for posting all your tests. It really influenced me trying it out...and I'm glad I did.

Just imagine a 14/15/16mm f/1.4 lens Sigma prime lens with even better quality...

The Art 14mm 1.8 is already pretty amazing.

I have it but I hope for a size/aperture improvement, if they make one for L/E-Mount.

Love the lens so far. I really wanted to do some nightscapes but too many clouds and wind (30-50 mph gust).

All with A7rII.

Bad shot, wind was so bad I could barely hold the tripod down.

Update on the polarizer gel for the rear slot. It works great.
I cut the gel to fit the lens set to its maximum strength when the lens is in landscape orientation. It can also be used in conjunction with NDs.

Excellent Fred,
I have a sheet of the ND gel coming maybe tomorrow orFriday. I want to try it out in combination with the NiSi 6-Stop ND and CPL combo filter to make it a adjustable polarizing 10-Stop filter.I also want to use it with the NiSi 10-Stop ND to increase it to a 14-Stop filter. I'll pick up sheet of the polarizer gel too for times that I want to leave the big filters home. Thanks for trying it out.

Did you get the Lee ND 1.2 (4-stop)?

I was thinking that if I cut the Lee polarizer gel in diagonal, I could get 'mid' polarizing strength for both portrait and landscape orientations.

BTW: Anything thinker than one (1) gel will induce field curvature especially for the wide angle range. One gel is fine and has no effect on FC.
When combining 2 Gels (I don't recommend, although it's possible), the lens must be stop down to at least f/8 for depth of field to mask the induced field curvature.

Good work Fred. My Nisi pack arrived today. Beautifully machined holder and filters look great but they certainly aren't subtle! I just know I would have got frustrated with gels in the field, my fingers would ruin them in the heat of battle.

Fred my Lee ND 1.2 (4-stop) gel sheet arrives this afternoon. I will test it out probably tomorrow due to rain today. I'm really interested in seeing how it works in conjunction with the NiSi Landscape NC CPL (making it a 4-Stop + CPL), the 6-Stop + CPL Combo (making it a 10-Stop + CPL Combo) and the 10-Stop ND (making it a 14-Stop ND. I'll wait and see how these combined options work before ordering the Polarized gel sheet.

It appears Haida is getting into the filter adapter game for the Sigma as well:
https://www.haidaphoto.com/en/story001-1037.html

I'm a bit torn. I certainly plan on getting this lens, and Fred has demonstrated that you can have a serviceable 4-stop ND with the rear filter, as well as a CPL, without too much hassle.

I would like to have a 6 stop ND and the ability to adjust the polarization, but man, that Nisi setup is the price of a new lens. How much is it for the adapter + a 6 stop ND? $800? That's one tough pill to swallow.

That looks like a good system. Do they make a holder for grads as well or is it just for circular?

I got the Nisi with 6,10 ND and a 3 Medium Grad. I can fortunately get the setup at a demo price but I agree, at full retail it would be a questionable purchase. I wouldn't have bought the lens though in all honesty if I couldn't have the ability to control the light.

Just from a cursory look at that marketing article, it appears it's some magnetic circular filter system, so I'd think no grads for this solution, at least.

Yeah, that's my big hold up. Love all that I'm hearing about the lens, and would love it for landscape astrophotography, but for an UWA I feel like a workable ND + CPL setup is very important, and paying an extra 800-1000 for a specialized kit is rough, especially for someone like me who is doing it as a hobby and not as a paid professional.
