"Farewell to the Sun"
A young humpback stretching its flukes under the setting sun, North Pass, near Juneau, Alaska
It's been a while since I've managed to make a whale photo that I thought was worth processing and posting. It took a little work driving the boat, being persistent, juggling the camera/lens and playing hunches but last night I managed to get what I was looking for.
Ugh, I hate what Photoshop does to a photograph. I have switched to DxO for raw conversion, and it might bring out the colors in the sky. However, this shot is amazing. I lived in Alaska for 4 years and scenes like this are rare. The whale is sharp and layering of mountains is superb. Love the sunlight on the water surface. The range of light in this shot is tough, but you captured it nicely!

Interesting, aside from some jpg and posting compression type issues the sky colors are dead on. They were muted and made by wildfire smoke.
