The 600GM does work OK for "almost macro" at minimum focus distance (although there are times, such as with the Sandys, when I wished I had my 100-400 with me ).
Just before seeing the Sandhill Cranes at Lake Woodruff NWR. Cross posted in the wildflowers thread.
^^ I hear you, Jon. But to me the AF of the A9 is really an aspect that the A7r IV is lagging behind... The cropping ability of the 61MP is great though.
Yeah, I still go a9 when its low light or 'must hit'

Yah, but how in the world do you get a perfectly tracked Tree Swallow
By the way, if anyone is interested, I updated my dragonfly. Not sure why I didn't do a bit of post-processing before I posted it. Anyway, a bit of shadows and highlights work helps it, IMO. I also did a little work on the Tone Curve and was surprised how saturated the image was, without any vibrance or saturation boost.

Kim, I couldn’t do it on a consistent basis, of course but there is a series from it flying straight at me to the one I posted above. It was more a matter of being able to keep the AF rectangle on the bird and the camera can basically do the rest. I used the Center-AF mode with a Dot Sight in the hot shoe. The keeper ratio is low though; I would say more in the 20% or so.
Loons are very rare in Buffalo NY, today we found a family of 6 and another adult that kept its distance from the pack. I saw one last week, today 7 at once!
My local osprey got nice and close today while I sat in my chair and watched. The other was sitting low in the nest which is new for such a nice day.... hopefully sitting on something.
