Very nice images. Were they shot at Silver Salmon Creek?

Looking at the images in this thread makes me long for a 500mm f4 more than ever!!! I love the contrast and snap of the 300mm GM and the 600mm vs any of the zooms. I just hate the size and weight of the 600mm and the 300mm being limited to 600mm with a 2X TC.

Nice work
Bill

These were all at Brooks Lodge in Katmai Alaska.

I'd never heard of Silver Salmon Creek until now. Seems like a very similar setup!

I'll be interested to see if 500mm f4s are ever a mainstream lens again. It seems with improvements to MP count, cropping, and noise reduction, the 500 f4 doesn't really have a spot in the line up.

I'll be back in Katmai in about 4 weeks, and all I'm bringing is the 300GM + 2x. I have a buddy bringing his R5 II + EF 500 F4 MK II and I'm 99% sure I'm going to convince him to sell that big beast and move to a 300GM, 600PF, 100-500, 300-600 (if it ever comes out) or splurge on one of the newer 400 f2.8s or 600 f4s as soon as we get home.

My bet is he lugs the beast around on day one, regrets it deeply, and leaves it in the cabin the rest of the trip.

He's still caught up in the old days of thinking he needs a 7lb lens to get good reach/images. After he walks 10 miles a day up and down the river and tries dealing with a monopod or tripod, I'm certain he's going to be reconsidering.
