Well, it depends on how much I could get for the original GM 600mm without any TC . A difference of $2,000 is lot of money for a TC that would normally cost some $500. Including the loss from the sale of the original GM lens though, the actual $ difference is probably more like $4,500 to $5,000. Thats far cry more than just $2,000. I almost can guarantee that the price of the GM 600 would go down quite a bit as soon as a new version with built-in TC is announced . A built-in TC is however very convenient, I admit. Plus, I remembered back then from my C days that a combo of two 1.4X TCs (the other one is made by Kenko) would yield slightly better images than the 2X TC by itself. But back then though, the 2X TC from C was a piece of crap, to say it bluntly. Sony 2X TC, on the other hand, is quite a bit better....Show more →
That's a good way to look at it, Joshua. I bet IF Sony comes out with such a lens for $15000, the "old" 600 GM's resale price will probably drop to $9000, so we could be looking at a $6000 difference. Let me check my Power Ball ticket
It would depend on cost for me if a 600GM v2 with built in TC came out. I am not concerned about the small added weight of the internal TC.
I almost always shoot with the bare lens. My subjects often come close enough. However, the main reason I dont use the TC is because it takes a couple seconds to add/remove. In that couple seconds the subject can get too close and I would miss shots. I would use a built in TC all the time when the subject is far enough out and I want to fill the frame more. Now I rarely use the external TC in those situations.
I think anyone whose subjects are not at a fixed difference would use an internal TC a lot. Whether it is worth the cost/weight for each user is a different question.

Just curious, if Sony makes a new 600 GM with a built-in 1.4TC like the Nikon Z 600, and charge $2000 more, would you guys be interested? I would, just for the convenience. But I already have the 1.4TC on my 600 GM 90% of the time already.
Considering the resale value of the 600GM is probably $9500-$10k that would put a brand new 600GM MII with TC at a $5000 upgrade for what is a $600 part and some convenience. Just doesn't make sense to me. I get why others that don't own the current lens want it no matter the cost.

I love this photo, maybe the colour or the water....awesome.
Some of these shots are great! I'm not in this lens' financial bracket but, I'd love some of these framed on the wall for sure. Except maybe not the murder ones

IMHO the original looks poor due to too much atmospheric interference. The enlarged version looks much worse.
PS: this thread is for showing off good images, would you start a dedicated thread for discussing your experiment?
I have been using my 600GM with the 1.4TC lately. After boosting my shutter speed to at least 1/3200 a sec, I have been getting very sharp results. I am starting to really enjoy the lens after 60 days of getting used to this beast.
