The copy I tested (on a 24MP sensor with AA) is certainly soft at F2.8, not only at close range.
It sharpened up nicely when stopping down though.
Stopped by Glazers here in Seattle today since I was driving by anyways and no 45/2.8 Sigma to be found, though the had all the other FE mount Sigma lenses in the Sony case. Likely end of Sept. to make it to brick and mortar (or in this case glass and steel) stores.
Had my 45/2.8 AI-P with me and was curious how the two would compare.
The two are likely about the same size and weight when including the F to FE adapter.
I always found that I liked the mid-distance wide open rendering of the 45/2.8 AI-P and at f/5.6 it had all the sharpness my D800 could want at far distances for landscapes. Not good pointing it into the sun though.
Fred these are really nice pictures!
But not any idea of lens sharpness.
Good bokeh, some vignetting but what about sharpness.
Couldn't you post some full resolution samples?

What do folks think about the Sigma vs the Sony 35 2.8? I've been looking for that comparison since the Sigma 45 was announced.
I have an A73, the Sony 35 1.4, and the Sony 24-105, and looking for a compact AF to have an option that's as small as possible. My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now (we're due date plus 5 days as I write this). I got the 35 1.4 for dimly lit family shots and other nightlife (and love it!). The two lenses I have right now are a little excessive in size for a day to day walk-around though.

I've owned the FE 35/2.8 ZA for many years and loved its portability. However, even though it's perhaps sharper than the Sigma 45/2.8, rendering is way harsher imo.
