I spent an afternoon at one of our state parks with this returning pair of Great Horned Owls. One of the two chicks fell out of its nest earlier in the day, a park ranger had placed it back in their nest. When I arrived, there was a fresh meal placed by one of the parents in the nest, later in the evening, the mother flew back to the nest to feed her chicks

I see most of you are doing birding but I'm interested in this 200-600 for street portrait. Wondering how that will work since lightning will most likely be not ideal. Hmmm...

A pair of great horned owl chicks hatched in the last couple of weeks, they have been quite active yesterday and the parents were very chatty.
The 2nd photo I found interesting in how the feathers fill in, as they grow through the 'tube'
3rd photo, one or both of the owlets have fallen out of the nest a couple of times in the last 5 days. Unsure which but one of them has cloudy/milky eyes and it doesn't appear to be the membrane
4th photo, of the female great horned owl overlooking the prairie for potential prey and keeping a close eye on their owlets

How 'bout something a little different!
(a) first time using the 200-600 for something other than birds, and
(b) first time giving astrophotography a try. WOW is this a deep rabbit hole, LOTS to learn

I'm exploring this very rabbit hole right now. All I'm waiting for is a clear, still night. Yes: astro is very technical and although it seems daunting at first, I think I have some of the basics down. Good polar alignment is paramount. I will be using the new Star Adventurer GTI, of which I'm talking my time to learn the functions.
I also need a better way to attach everything. I'm not totally confident in how I will set it up.
