Wow oh WOW !!! I'm without words that can do justice to these shots . I've never seen shots of the young ones with the kill before . So many amazing , stunning and very intriguing shots. What a day you and the pride had.
Birdie
Thanks Birdie! The lionesses and cubs were just so photogenic and posing in nice light. Even my guide kept muttering, wow wow wow as he too was snapping away.

Hi Hobbes...
What a series! This is an amazing set of photographs not only for their technical excellence but for their documentation of the daily lives of these wonderful animals. Truly wonderful work.
Tom
Thanks Tom! That day ranks up there as one of my best days ever.

It is always a treat to see lions, and especially the cheeky cubs! Great to see the cubs on the kill.
The cute factor with lion cubs is always off the chart. But then when that one walked up on mom's back and sat down there to watch over the plains below while mom did the same just knocked our sox off.

Spectacular set of images! You must have had a magical time that day.
Thanks Fred! That entire day was magical. Even when we had trouble seeing in the darkness after sunset we had trouble tearing ourselves away.

Thanks Greg! That means a lot! But the lions did most of the work. We were just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

What truly captivating images which are amazing and tragic at the same time. Perhaps, I’m getting soft in my old age but the images instill a reminder of both the fragility and preciousness of life. The more time I spend shooting and observing photos such as these the more I am compelled to become a vegetarian. Does anyone else feel this way or am I becoming too kafkaesque?
Thanks. I've seen many kills, and they are all very sobering and hard to watch. I know that's nature and that the predators have to eat too, and that they bring balance to everything.

Thanks Sue! I give the credit to the lions... they are truly magnificent creatures. The lionesses are so incredibly loving and caring toward the cubs.

Stunning set! Love the warm light on the animals!
Thanks bobby! While the sky was getting brighter but the sun not yet risen, the cubs were already playing around with each other. I sat there dying for more light not able to really shoot yet. Then when the sun finally rose and the cubs were climbing on the lionesses who were sitting watching over the plains in that beautiful red/gold light, even my guided kept muttering in amazement and appreciation of the stunning scene.
Cheers,
Hobbes
