Did they manage to solve the issue with F1.2 on some sony bodys?
My copy has been replaced in the meantime. Unfortunately, the new copy had already installed the new firmware, same problem...
After complaining again, Sigma has now made a firmware downgrade with my copy. So, 3 months later, I have a working Sigma 35mm f1.2.
I find it unbelievable that Sigma has not released an update to this day. Apparently the focus is only on new products. Sigma doesn't seem to care about the support for their own premium lenses.
It is also a poor testimony that this is not mentioned in any review, although some reviewers (e.g. Bastian) have the problem themselves. Actually, that should be in every review, analogous to Samyang with comments like "the usual lottery"...
It's a shame because the lens is actually really good.
If Sigma offered reasonable support, like Tamron, I would buy a lot of the new Sgima lenses.
But without support, the prices are too high for me.

That is over the top. I use Sigma for many years. Never had the impression of a lottery in getting a good lens and we have/had many.
We have two 35/1.2 and 4 bodies. We have no problems, many of our photographer colleagues don't have one either. It is unfortunate that you had to experience it and I can understand you are angry. But exclamations like this don't help.

I agree. Their customer service is very bad. Interesting fact, they actually brought out a new firmware version for the lens last week but it was only for the L version

You always seem to be the heroic defender of Sony and Sigma here at FM.
In your eagerness you misunderstood my post, I wanted to say that many reviewers never tire of mentioning that SAMYANG lenses are a quality lottery. Then they could also mention that Sigma is not at all interested in solving problems with their lenses. Not one reviewer does report this problem even though it is known.
I am happy for you that you are taking photos at weddings and that you do not seem to know any problems. Neither dust on the sensor nor problems with the Sigma 35mm f1.2, everything is probably not true, because you either cannot recognize it or are not affected yourself with your special type of photography.
Apparently you know better than Sigma does, because Sigma admits the problem on their website.
I don't understand why you have to mention here for the umpteenth time that you do not have or see the problem.
I responded to a question and you can see from my post that a downgrade is possible without any problems. Your posts offer no added value.

The more you can read about the - in this case obviously - bad service from Sigma on the Internet, the sooner Sigma will try to find a solution.
This would also help you in the future, should you ever have a problem with your great Sigma lenses. So why are you so bothered by every mention of disadvantages/problems of Sigma lenses?

I thought you to respond a bit more intelligently.
I am not a heroic defender of Sony when mentioning not to have problems others have, and that although our gear is used a lot under battle conditions, used more than that of many others here, I guess. That doesn't make my opinion more right or wrong (as it doesn't yours). It is just an opinion based on a lot of experience.
We have many many contacts to Sony shooters by mail, via Instagram or during workshops and I can say that based on that issues seem to be rare. The web always amplifies issues, often blows them out of proportion. People, angry on having issues get vocal and bias sets in. Of course Sigma is saying that a problem can exists, since there is one. But how big is it really? A company like Sigma needs to be offensive here. Don't you think that's normal? So tell me, how large is the percentage of affected lenses? Do you have any idea? Without knowing that, how can you be so sure it is a big problem making it a lottery to obtain a good lens? And here we come to your cherry picking.
I never said I don't have _no_ dust on the sensor. Just not as extreme as others. You should improve reading ability. If I didn't understand your post properly, you should have written it differently.
You wrote "analogous to Samyang with comments like "the usual lottery"..." The "analogous" makes your intention clear. What else does it mean as saying getting a functioning lens is a lottery?
I think a bit of perspective is important and a bit of a different opinion t an extreme one like yours.
"why you have to mention here for the umpteenth time that you do not have or see the problem."
Says the one complaining a lot about that here.

I think the most interesting thing here is the root cause of the issue, as there are many users of Sigma 35mm f1.2 and A7RIV combo reporting no problems...
So is it a batch of faulty lenses or a combination of a faulty lens and body (maybe similar to 200-600 issues reported by some) ?

I used the 35 1.2 for a few weeks, loved it except the overall size bothered me. I typically paired it with my 85 1.4 from sigma inside a small manfrotto sling bag so found it hard to manage the two without wanting to go for a full backpack.
For a run and gun street shooter like me I think I’ll sacrifice the faster aperture to go with a lighter/smaller 35 option

It depends which Sigma 85 1.4 . I have the new one (dg dn) + 35 f1.2 + a third (not too big) lens on the body in my PD Sling 6l... It's a stretch but it fits ...

Yeh i got the new 85 1.4
The manfrotto sling i have is smaller than the PD one, so was having issues carrying both lenses when the 35 1.2 was on my A7C.

In my case:
A7Riii, AF-C (always), focus priority, no usage at MFD.
Problem occurs only with f1.2. Not one sharp picture possible anymore. Endless focus hunting.
Tested two A7RIII with newest firmware, same result.
Updated mine, though I only have a lowly A7III . I'm interested though if it fixes AF-S at infinity, which in my case sometimes gives wrong focus confirmation. I'll do a quick test tomorrow.

Although I didn't have problems, updated my two 35s, too. Needed to use an older Mac, as Sigma seems not to support the newer OS.

AF-S issue is still there, though I discovered today it's surprisingly regular - every 3rd AF-S (with magnification) attempt on the same spot fails.
Maybe I should file a bug report to Sigma this time ...
