Wooo, thats cool...I’m not keen on going to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night (to get a dark enough spot). But....great shot! seedifferently wrote:
Although I primarily shoot the family with this lens, I have been quite pleased with its night sky performance.
Here's a vertorama from a recent visit to some dark skies along the Florida coast.

It is nice Sony shooters have F1.2 lens. Some of the shots are actially very good. But it ain't Canon, the vibe, colors, the softness of highlites...nothing is there. FOr me, nothing speccial abou the images, they look clinical, like Nikon images.

Thank God it aint Canon. Not everyone has the same color preference, I prefer Leica, Nikon and Sony colors. I hate Canon colors since 350D rebel days, next is the 5D classic still I get that washed out pale yellowy Canon colors. Enter the D700, problem solved 😁
The difference between camera colors is getting smaller nowadays and a few minutes in ligtroom could alter an image to your liking. So what we see here is a mix of camera output and personnal editing preference.

Nobody has problems with the autofocus?
Since the firmware update of the lens, AF-C on my A7RIII has become 100 percent unusable.
I asked Sigma weeks ago, but until today I am only being held up. AF-S is very imprecise on my camera with most lenses anyway, so that the Sigma can currently only be used manually.
My friends (who have the Sigma) all have the same problem.
Strange that you can't find much about it on the internet. At the moment I would not recommend buying the lens anymore.
The release of a firmware that apparently has not really been tested and the response time to the many complaints afterwards is also questionable ...

We would like to share results of our investigation regarding the operation of the SIGMA 35mm F1,2 DG DN | Art, when used on the SONY α7RIII / α7R IV.
[Applicable products]
SIGMA 35mm F1,2 DG DN | Art for SONY E-mount
[Confirmed phenomenon]
The focus may not work on α7R III / α7R IV depending on the shooting distance when the focus mode is set to ‘AF-C’ with an aperture value of F1,2.
We are planning a firmware update to address this issue, which will be announced in due course.
Note:
This phenomenon does not occur in the following conditions.
When used on cameras other than Sony α7R III / α7R IV
When shooting movies
We apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers using this product combination. Please avoid using focus mode “AF-C” when aperture value F1,2 is selected until the firmware update is released.
Sigma plays down this very much, in fact the 35mm f1.2 Sigma can hardly be used with autofocus. For me the error occurs with open apertures, at all distances from about 1 meter, i.e. for everything that I photograph. Since the AF-S mode is rather imprecise, at least on the A7RII and III, the Sigma can actually only be used manually (for me).
I contacted Sigma for the first time 3 weeks ago. It has now taken 3 weeks for the answer to confirm the problem. I'm curious to see how long it will take to provide an update. I'll give Sigma another week, then I'll take legal action to exchange my copy.
The German Sigma support is very bad so far, they only refer to Sigma Japan. I'll have a hard time spending that much money on a Sigma product again.

Hmm, that's really bad... I did not notice anything because I'm using it on A7III and the AF actually got quicker after the latest FW update...

AF is not like native on any third party lenses I have (except Batis line), generally third party is less accurate and slower at updating focus distance when shooting action. AF-S with focus loupe is the only mode I trust for accuracy.

In AF-C I also find that the 35 1.2 seems better after last update.

According to Sigma, only the A7RIII and RIV are affected.
In my experience, the problem only occurs after the firmware update.
On my camera (and on the cameras of other Friends/photographers), AF-C no longer works at all, the lens no longer focuses, but just "pumps" around.
Since it is confirmed by Sigma, there is no doubt that this problem exists

Didn't have problems so far. Interesting.
On A9/A9ii focus is fantastic with it but even on our A7riv everything is fine up to now.

That is strange because I just tested mine with AF-C and A7R IV both on latest firmware and it does AF. I need to do more tests later for accuracy at different distances ( was like 4 feet away) but at least it was not jumping around, it was finding the Eye as usual and in focus the few shots I took.
I will rest and confirm later to make sure I was just not lucky on those shots lol
